View Full Version : Evolution: female characterdesigns
rhemrev 04-13-2004, 03:30 PM I would love to see a 3d model of either one of the characterdesigns below, though the art itself was done quite a while ago. I
f any of the 3d modelers have some cool ideas for a character they want to see sketched out, just contact me and we'll work out a character together...:)

Nice drawings. Keep in mind, modellers, that textures aren't part of the contest. You're more than welcome to add textures later, but for the contest your model should be default shader only.

hey rych,
here's some stuff i sketched out on the trainride back home today, hope this helps!

Only thing not yet clear from the sketch could be the tattoo; it covers both arms, and goes down on her left side (hip + cheek).
This should be kewl...:D

Hope this helps, a quick turnaround sketch ofher face. I ditched the goggles on her head by the way, doesn't really seem to fit the character.....but, feel free to add em if you like em. :)

I"ve decided to shoot for the first model, after close study i think it would make a better model because of the detail.

Hey rhemrev,
I cant get over how cool that first girl is, I am cosidering starting a model now and hopefully having time to finsih before the deadline. Do you think it would be possible for you to make some orthos of her. If so that would be awesome. Thanks

katon: I'll see what I can do about a turn around sketch, shouldhave some time for it further down the week. Be aware that Lordrych switched to the first design now aswell, and the rules won't allow it to team up with 2 modelers on the same design I think.....

rhemrev: I think there is no limit to how many diferent poeple model the same design, you just arent alowed to team up with the same modeler in mutiple designs.
rule 4: There must be a unique 2D/3D artist collaboration for each entry. For example: Bob (a 2D artist) & John (a 3D artist) submit an entry. Bob and John are not allowed to work together on another entry. However Bob is allowed to collaborate with another 3D artist for a second entry. John is allowed to collaborate with another 2D artist for a second entry.
- Artists can enter as many times as they would like as long as the above rule is followed.
- 2D & 3D work can not be done by the same artist on a submission.
So as long as we follow that we will be fine. Also there is another evolution thread where two people are working on the same model. Anyways man if you oculd get some orthos up that would be sweet, but I understand if you are busy. Peace

hey.. looking really good.. can we see a wire and a closer look of the head?
Flaviosen
05-30-2004, 06:02 PM
Well...heres the head
There are some things that i will change when we will use her for our animation (Shirow project) like some stuff with the eyes and such. Im still a noob so be gentle but firm :D
http://webzone.k3.mah.se/kit02033/shirow/girl_shirow/head.jpg
i used alooooot of reffs to get to this stage....looked alot at other peoples work and read about how it is smartest to actually do a char....im still not at the stage where i am good enough to do my own style and look in a nice way
wireframe is, im sorry to say totaly useless, since this is an art to part model it cant have smoothers...so i had to max out the wire frame to make it as smooth as i wanted it to be.....i have an earlyer version of the body which is untamperd if you want me to do a wire pic of that one
the finished version is stupid in number of polys
well....gotta learn some time :D
/flaviosen
ps....maaaan the hair looks freaky in this angle

the more i look at the face the more stupid stuff i see....now it feels as thou the head is to big and dont fit the body...also looks wierd with the neck
u made me look at all my mistakes
well....its just as well...got to redo some of the modeling so that i can learn from my mistakes...im young...i have time :]

Well, it isnt´too bad .. but there are a few flaws in your head modell. Move the nose way higher. Look at you references again. Also there is a strange bump under the eyes. And yes, the hair looks freaky in closeup ;) . Hard to say how it will look like if it would printed in 3d.
But you´re right, there is soo much to learn (for all of us), you will get better every time you make a new model. So keep practising, you´re on a good way.
:wip:
And good luck for the voting

Hey Flav and SD, just wanted to say thnx for the awesome colaboration, it truely has been an honor working with you guyz!
Flav: you really converted my 2d designs very well to 3d, it was both inspiring as educational working with you! I love that you did with her face, and even think it's well-proportioned, so stop pulling your own stuff down, it looks awesome! :D
SD: you really have been a great Editor on this colaboration, exactly knowing what to say and keeping us both up to date on what the other one was doing, and yeah, looking forward on working with ya some more in the future!
For those interested: here are some more 2D images that went into the creation of our character, it really was a challenge for me to draw exactly the same design from all views, something that really made me think about my designs, how it would all come together and what would work and what not in 3d.
Initial concept:

Some revisions after the flav's first models (I painted directly over the models):

Closeup:

Again, I had alot of fun on this, definitely looking forward to more colabs in the future!
