View Full Version : Light value setup
johnj_1978 04-12-2004, 10:26 PM I am trying to light certain interior scenes and I was wondering if anyone knew where I can find the values for different types of lights (fires to flourescents to standard...etc.) and how to set them up in Max with the Brazil plugin.
I always try, but I can never seem to get the lights to look like the real thing. They always look to bright or the shadows don't work right.
Any help would be really appreciated.

Maybe this chart will help for RGB values:

Brightness is all relative, though. For example, if there's bright sunlight coming through a window, a 100 watt bulb wouldn't look that bright. If it were nighttime and the 100 watt bulb were lighting the room, it would need to be much brighter.

as far as realism goes, you might try IES lights using IES files, which are measurements of how real lights emit/reflect light (i think)
both max and brazil can use IES files, so just do some google searches and see what you can find. my quick search turned up these:

as far as stuff like fire, i think that's mostly up the artist...ie make it bright enough to look like fire light ;)
