hey Fetus,
great concept it's going to be very cool. Only one very small crit, the wart things are all perfectly round, you might want to randomise them ap a bit (you probably were going to anyway)

Look forward to the next installment.

Cheers.

phil: thank you!....I'll definatly make those warts less uniform..

great BoB you have. I like the design and proportions. The size and shape of the house on its back is awesome too. great work.

rizob
07-13-2002, 10:09 PM
its commin along nicely, great proportions, clean mesh, and i really like the wrincles on the feet, looks sort of birdish, i think i would almost give him a beak(like a steggasaurus) instead of lips and teeth, dont stop

fellah
07-13-2002, 11:16 PM
good modeling, the wire looks very clean. the sketch\concept ain't bad either

BUT: I would bevel the "warts" out from the mesh instead of just cutting\pasting "balls" onto it. it ain't hard, just bevel and tweak. it will look MUCH better I assure you. at least if you're going to make closeups.

take care

wow good job on that head in just 2 HOURS! Its simple and i dont see any triangles. Do a smooth/subdivided render. An Overall appealing shape to the head... looks great

thank you for the compliments!
fellah: thanks! ..Im lazy :wip:...but i'll do it because i know it will look ALOT better...
rizob: yes indeed, he does have a bird like head.....I'm working on riging the mouth and a jaw full of teeth but a beak is a good idea.....a beak can have teeth i think :)

dehm :D love it.
don't have any crit really... i really like the look of him... look a bit evil... and that's gooood :)
i guess the "warts" give a bit of the "mean"-look.
and those teeth... ah... it's coming along really well.
and by the way, i just got my BoB's jaw right :D an update will be along soon.

keep up the good work.

wow thats really kick ass! I love it. I cant see any problems besides something quite minor. That leather strap might fall off his head if he leans forward :) Maybe another strap around the back of his head would secure it

Fetus23
07-15-2002, 04:15 PM
crode: thanks man, I'm glad you like what I've done so far. Good point about the strap. I didn't notice that one. As you said another strap should solve the problem.

I have all week off work so I should have no excuse for not finishing this guy on time. Still have to make the tree, add some trinkets to the hut (satilite dish, antenas, lanterns, more clutter), and work on the beasts body and legs which i haven't really touch so far. Also, rigging and posing at the very end.
more fun stuff on the way!!!

Allright, allright... a throne will probably look cool, i really liked the little helmet tho :D

and i love the hut! it will look goddamn hot with a satellite dish. i mean, who doesn't have one of those these days? eh, i don't have one, but hell, i use cable :D

gimmie more updates... this one's cool.

This looks really really great. I prefer the beast with out the chair on his head. And that tree is a fantastic touch. The overall proportions of all the pieces really fits together well. Everything looks like it belongs right where it is.

Rex: Thanks...go hard!!

Stipen: Nice to hear from you. I'm still waiting for a cartoon with all your characters to get to my TV..

wow , beautiful update...you've been working hard:thumbsup:
How did you do all the vines hanging form the deck of the cute little house? looking really nice...

ZrO-1
07-20-2002, 12:59 AM
That's looking really really great. I think that if you want to use DOF then you should position the camera to be at a height that would be as if one of the little people on it's back were taking the photo from the ground. Otherwise I'd recomend getting rid of the DOF.

Just my 2 cents.

derwolpertinger
07-20-2002, 02:35 AM
really stunning detail!!! respect!
but i'd agree with zro about the DOF. it makes the giant BoB look like aminiature one.

fellah
07-20-2002, 09:32 AM
no crits this time, just wanted to inform you that your beast and it's burden is looking really really.. really really good now!

Fetus23
07-21-2002, 07:15 AM
Thanks for all the love!!! :)

stipen : Thanks! :buttrock:

Bezerker75: thank you....I made the vines with splines drawn in top view over the platform. Then I extruded them and manually placed and bent them so there would be no crash throughs. The leaves were added afterwards. (im still adding leaves)

ZrO-1: good input. I do agree a shot from the ground with dof might be more effective but i do like the feel it gives in these 2 pictures. Though I probably won't be adding it to any more renders. like derwlpertinger said, it makes him look small.

derwlpertinger: thank you much!!

fellah: no crits??? woooohooo!!!!

As for my final render I'm conflicted wether or not to go with GI or my standerd 3 point lighting set up...any ideas? Heres a new render with some work done on the tree...color turned kinda funky..

Love it, It has a whole "Riven/Myst" feel to it. Perhaps some nice metal textures on the hut?

Fetus23

Thanks flypaper! Theres no textures yet but after the challenge I'll definatly be dirtying this thing up. I started drawing the bump for the dino thanks to bezerker75's thread :).

Nice work, I am not sure but I think you got this one in the bag. The only thing that rely pops out at me is the head. I guess it is just a matter of taste but there is something about it that doesn’t sit well in my mind there........ Not saying that its wrong cause that’s imposable just from my point of view being very critical the head is the spot were my eye is stops.

07-22-2002, 01:27 PM
if there was a "character design" category you'd already have my vote, the design is awesome

I think ZrO-1 was right about the DOF shot
That ground shot really gives the impression of its real size.
some one earlier said something about little people on his back.

you should put the hut up on the market.
now theres an idea for an ad in a property paper

Rockin! Those "pumpkin" like trees really great. Overall I think the basic shapes like those are designed so well, it gives the piece tons of character. Missed commenting here, too..great stuff..really has a cool vibe to it, and it all works really well together..excellent piece.

I kinda like the one on top too..maybe it's the guy waving, or the tones..I dunno. I like the colored out sections on the bottom though. Both cool either way. I'd hate to be that beast's dermatologist (let's see, the warts I can give you something for, but the tree you'll have to see a specialist) :D

Look forward to seeing what you do in the next..
