I was testing z-brush, and looking for an interesting model.
I'v seen this plastiline model on a website about fx makeup.

Unfortunatly, I did'nt remember the autor of this sculpt (if someone can remember me, I'l put his name on this theard...)

Awesome work. Looks a lot like the sculpture.
Z-Brush just keeps on amazing me every time I see a new render. Great stuff.

Thanks for your comments... Yes, zbrush rocks...
For this model, I've started with a realistic human head.
it took me around 1h30 to make the low face human head stick to the geometry of the sculpt.
Then I needed around 4-5 hours to add details, veins etc...
I spend short time, 1h30 to make textures.
I rendered the character in maya, using a classical dome light.
For french beginnrs in zbrush, theres a good site to learn basics about zbrush, z spheres, and find french manual for zb :

excellent! i wouldnt be suprised if z-brush buys it for it's products' ads!
:applause:
just love modeling and texture except the "steel" gums and teeth...I think rotten teeth and gums could be nicer..but that's just my opinion...
merci pour le lien Z-Brush, hate de l'essayer

Thanks guys! Your absolutly right Akai, tooth could have looked better with roten looking... But... As lasy boy as I am, I spend 1h30 on the face texture, then I decided my monster was almost finished...! So I just put a chromic shader on tooth.. I thought in myself : it will make it look like an alien a bit!!!!
I often feel too lasy to finish well enaugh my cg...!

I think the grey one looks better than textured one, so you mite have to work on the textures a bit more. those metal teeth don't look good either.
BTW the original sculpture was by Jonathan M. Fuller

Thx cornel! For the rendring, I imported my final mesh into maya.
However zbrush 2 seems to have improved they alredy good renderer, I know better maya, and I find it easyer to manipulate my cameras and lights.
Your right, I use a classical dome light, with fake hdri (a ennvironemental mapping modify skin tints).
I also add a direct light, to have a specular and a main shadow direction.

Hi Seb, ;-p
Can you post a wire and a displace map?
Will you try to continue the whole monster?
Good job man.

The short answer is:OF course,Zbrush makes it so easy to do some :)
I made a little search on sculptors who made demonic pieces such as gargoyles and came up with very little, maybe didn't the popes,Kings or populations like to see such ode to those creatures?
They're so lovely, how can you hate them?
This is a completely different medium and gladly,a different era :)
PS:I'm personally a bit tired of pulpous naked chicks(not real life's though) rather than weightlifting, fleshy demonic beings, female or male.

Sweet Seb,
I think it could use a bit of asymmetry, for instance, lower one of the eyes, part of the nose or crook up some parts of the ears.

Why can you used a high poly mesh ? It doesn't work with a low def model and a displacement map in mentalRay ?

I also use zbrush for modelling. and this work is absolutely an excellent work. Why not get any star? Four from me.

If u like can check my try in zbrush forum.

The reason why I didn't made any displacement map for a lower res model, is that I'm newbee on zbrush, and I only used basics sculpting fonctions... Next character I will work on, I'll try to use the great displaceemen t maps fonctions...Thjats absolutly true, I should have put some assymetrie on the face, but I work rather short time on this model, I wanted to test zb...
If I had more time to spend I would have worked on it... Assymetrie make a face more realistic...
i'm also a bit desapointed to have no stars!

Zbrush could also be called the monster creator, then again,it seems to be the only thing I'm personally good at,making ugly, distorted fleshy thigs...I like it! :)
Your work is very promising Sebas, can't wait to see your upcoming models as you master THE brush :)

Yes! it seem zbrush is the best tool to create monsters!
But not only... Its mostly usesd to creat details on skin, but you can also use it for envirenments, like trees, sculpted columns, cloths, shoes etc... I'm actually working on baskets for video game. I make a very high def shoes and I will generate a normal map. Zbrush has also many texturing abilitys, the 3d copy to project tetxtures on parts of your model, and a projection texturing tool, like deep paint 3d...
Definilty, zbrush is a very powerfull tool, not only reserved to make monsters.. But its so easy to deform a human head to make it morphing to a monster, you can't resist! I couldn't too! :bounce:
