View Full Version : Envelope problem
capone_adam 04-11-2004, 05:26 PM Not usually a problem but for some crazy reason now when I envelope my character, select the deformers and right click...the envelope of the object (in this case the chest and arms of a character) changes shape and the arms rotate upwards LEAVING the bones behind so they are no longer inside.
Any ideas what could be causing this?, thanks

try resetting the actor, and freeze the mesh before applying the envelope.

Yeah, only problem is it means redoing all my weight painting. Will be the only way forward though I think.
Thanks anyway

a) setting reference poses for bones doesn't involved redoing anything
b) whenever you need to re-apply an envelope operator, for whatever reason, just open the weight editor and save a preset with all the weights.
when you have re-enveloped just open the weight editor and load in the preset you saved, no re-weighting involved.
I'd also suggest a cursory read of the manual and of the tutorials book, managing deformers and envelopes is illustrated quite well in both.

At last, no more annoying you lot with this annoying problem. In the end I selected all the bones and 'reset' actor'...then I manipulated the meshs to fit within the origial bone pose again. Then got rid of all envelope ops...then reenveloped and it didn't move a bit. Sorted. This time as soon as I finish weighting I will save as a preset so I have something to load back if any problems arise. Lesson learnt. Thanks for your support all!
