Hello everyone! This is my first post on the CGTalk forums. ^_^ I've just been absently reading them, but now I've decided to join the fun!
Anyway, I just wanted to ask you fellow Lightwavers out there some questions.. They are sorta complicated but I've taken some screenshots, so hopefully it will make a bit more sense when I try to explain it all... My main question is related to the Bevel tool in LW...(I have 7.0 btw)
Basically, I want to know if there is a way to use the Bevel tool that allows me to bevel a *set* of faces as one; instead of splitting them into sections. I know there is a smooth shift tool, but that does not allow me to *inset* the faces, I have to use the smooth shift tool *with* the stretch tool to inset it properly. However, the stretch tool works on the axis of where I click, where as the bevel tool works on an axis fully centered around the entire poly face..thus stretching creates problems..
I've made a little example of my smooth shifting + stretch tool technique, and how it doesn't quite do what I want (and when it does, it's much slower than the control of bevel)... Anyway here's my example: (please look at the picture attached)
Block A: this is just a simple block I have beveled.. this is how I want objects B and C to look (just referring to the edges bevel makes), however the subsections obviously dont allow that. Basically I want the objects to have edges for the light to bounce off of.
Block B: This is a block that I have Smooth Shifted the top of, then I used stretch where the arrows point. obviously doesn't work.
Block C: this time I smooth shifted + stretched the sides outwards, instead of the top, still not what I want..
D: this is obviously perfect, I simply made this shape whole, extruded it and then beveled it, now I can go and make my subsections.. But that does not solve my problem of when I already HAVE the subsections cut... :(
I don't know if that made any sense at all, it's hard for me to describe it in any simple way really. Anyway, if any of you can help me with this I would love to hear!! Thanks for your time! :D
