what kind of error does it report? does it spit any message?

the only thing that happens is:

the program loads fully... or at least it seems to..
and than the main window doesnīt appear, but a Script Editor window appears in the bottom right corner of the scree saying
//: error://

but if i press ctrl+alt+del i can still see that maya is running in the background so i have to close it...

ok,
no concrete idea

but you can try to delete your preferences (back them up before)

maya\prefs\

do you have the maya application in the taskbar ? if it's in your task viewer it could be that it's just minimized or something - or offscreen due to some reason

This one caught my eye... 95, 98, ME(?) are the Microsoft OS' which show the running programs with ctrl+alt+del, NT, 2K and XP(?) need to select the task manager first.
So, to let you know, Maya needs an NT based operating system, so 95, 98 nor ME won't work, sorry :hmm:

...Ofcourse it could be that you just didn't care to write a few useless words, but who knows ;) :D...
