Hey folks

I just put my squirrel together in a cute little scene last night.
I already had the squirrel modeled as well as the trees.
I put some grass in on my own instead of the PE grass to suit the style of the squirrel more.

But instead of me telling you what i figured and did ill let you tell me what you think.
I have an animated short with the squirrel, when i figure out how to post it ill do that :)

But heres a scene i did in one night for fun.

ok im editing this post now to put my animation on it!
hehe ok heres some things you should know about this,
This is my first 3d animation ever, the squirrel is my first ever character modeled in 3d. Actually everything you pretty much see here is a first.
Dont make fun of my dmap shadows, i didn't know what they were at the time (2 months ago). My hide/unhide pops.. heheh OOOPS!! and yeah the sound should be like .1 second before he talks but i couldn't do that with the divx codec.
Yeah this was a project for school to animate a character acting to dialogue.
I suck at sound stuff so that was the best i could do.
Its my buddy's voice, hehehe hes not cute like the squirrel though girls :p

And the film stuff is stuff i did for fun with squirrels.
They are big files cause i couldn't get the to divx with the sound, and you NEED THE SOUND!! If you dont wanna waste time just watch the sillysquirrel one. But trust me its worth your time if you got it.
Ok here they are enjoy!

looking good:)
I like that glow on the grass.
only a couple o' crits :
1 - there seems to be some weird creases at the end of the tail and at the shoulder junction.
2 - how bout beefing up the textures a bit.

anyway its way better than anything i could do right now... keep it up :bounce:

lol, he is cute. The only thing you need to do is:

-Add some fur to his tail
-The ground textures are kinda blah.

I agree about the texture,
had fur , didn't like it, and will model it in on a new squirrel for my demo reel :)
yeah creases are bad there, i didn't even notice. Thats why i love this site.

I used maya.. =)
well here is some wire of the scene, if this helps, kinda messy

the shadows could be a little more pronounced even though it is daytime. objects are a little 'floaty'
the bump on the tail is a little....un-fur-like.
and as said before.....too cute, hurts my head!!!

Hey, that is very good man :)

What kinda lights did you use ?

Nice character man. Also nice to see someone doing some proper lighting for a change rather than just sticking in an area light an clicking the "Use GI" checkbox.

One thing about the lighting though - the foreground is all quite bright, whereas the background and shadows are very dark. I'd consider adding a couple more fill or rim lights to pick the shadows out a bit

Great model though, he's full of character

O cool more replies.

To light this scene i used spot lights for key and fill, and two point lights for they eyelights.
I also through the gi joe script in there cause it made for a nice looking fill on some of the stuff, but i guess thats why the back is darker cause the spots aren't back there. cool, thanks didn't think of that.
did any of you like my animation? Or is it not working? lemme know if the links are busted please.

yes, cute indeed, and... cartoony! :)
I haven't checked the animations, though.

He has personality and appeal. I think I find the pose of his hand a bit unnatural. And, you're using Maya, so try adding some fur on the tail, or maybe on the whole charcter as well.

Keep it up...
