View Full Version : Light Tracer GI problem...

Hello folks,

First of all I'm very new to both my software modeling package (max6) and GI.
This is my 2nd scene to be made, and I've ran into some problem already, I think it's caused by the Light Tracer plugin which I'm using for GI.

Please have a look at the shot below...

The light setup I'm using is pretty much how I want it, except I do not want the grainy/noisy appearence near the bottom of the pic. The "noise" only seems to happen when rendering with Light Tracer, so I guess that's my problem.
Are there any parameters I could change in the Light Tracer settings to reduce this amount of noise?

I've tried turning on Adaptive Undersampling and left the default settings untouched. (Initial Sample Spacing 16x16 and Subdivide Down To 1x1) But that didn't do much good.

Hope someone here can give me some advice.

hi LarsMartin ,
are you using skylight ? if so , you should blur your maps first in photoshop , or use higher Rays/Sample , or lower your Rays/Sample and increase Filter Size ((Adaptive Undersampling is turned off here )). thats what in my head at the moment ,could you give more setting.

Hi lamice,

I'm using two lights in this scene, a spotlight and an onmi.
The spotlight comes from above and the omni is placed behind the camera. Thanks a lot for the advice though.
Think I will go for increasing the Rays/Sample value then. Though it will make render times take even longer than it took before.

why not moving this to max forum so you can get more help?
and by the way , nice website.

I have increased the amount of Rays/Sample from 250 to 700 now, and uploaded the new render. As you can see there still appears to be grains down the bottom of the shot.
Though it seems to be slightly better then it was before.

Good idea lamice, but how do I get this topic moved to the Max forum? (sorry, im new to this board)
