Ehm... no offence. But ehm... I really really like these "let's do-it-together" things. But... isn't the wip section a better place for it instead of filling the 2D-art section with 3D things?
Or am I just being picky? In that case, I'll shut up ;)

KEKS: Please don't take this badly, because it's not meant so (ominous start, no?), but I think you missed the point of concept design, especially when it comes to character design.
I guess the main point I'm trying to make is that a good character concept doesn't start with an image, it starts with a concept (oddly enough). The image follows the concept, form follows function (here I go preaching again).
I don't think 'a tough guy with a drape' is a character. It's an image. A character is made up of both interior (what do I want? How do I want to get it? etc.) and exterior (Where do I live? What do I eat? etc.) influences. These are the building blocks that will allow a good concept artist to develop a thorough, logical and, most importantly, convincing design.
So maybe you should explain more to us about your idea, about your character and his situation.
Here ends today's sermon. Go in Peace.
Sure, :) I understand your point but dont think that way in a linear way.... This is imaginary world and anything can work. I can start from an image and invent the story later or give him character later. I understand what you are saying but to me this is not most important thing at the moment. At the moment I need something that looks cool and that would be little bit challenging to model. All i am doing is testing my modeling skills while doing something new. I have a drawing on a large bristol board and cant scan it at the moment but i like to work with others since i am not that great of a concept artist or dont know how to put my ideas onto 2d surface, that is my biggest problem. So some resources and ideas from others are welcome. I saw a book somewhere from Orient with all these cool looking characters and they did not have any background information so that is what i am looking for some ideas as I dont have a real solid idea.
I hope you understand.... its all about modeling now .. maybe you can develop a story and i'll do modeling :)
peace :)
