these terms are more used for game models and skins ;)

Never heard of skinmapping, but skinning generally refers to the process of attaching geometry to a bone system?

Sorry I didn't provide more info about my question. I came accross this when found a seemingly good tutorial on skinmapping:
Called: Welcome to my tutorial on skinmapping you nuts
From: Pixelated
URL:http://www.planetquake.com/polycount/cottages/pixelated/tut01.shtml
In the beggining of the tutorial the author (Barry Collins) says the following quote:
"At Pixelated, I model and skinmap all of our original work, while Per does all the skinning."
Now based on the info you guys have provided I can infer that skinmapping is applying the texture to the models, while skinning is providing the "skin" to a bones system.
Wait a sec! But if so, then why Barry never does the actual applying of the texture on the model?
He only sort of prepared anything that needed to be prepared prior to the actual applying of the texture on the model.
As you can see I am still very confused. I didn't even know there was so much to be done before applying the texture on a model.
Thanks a lot to all that took the time to reply : )

Hey..
DrPepper..
skinmapping is the same as uvw mapping.. so when the guy says he models and skinmaps.. he models.. and uvwmaps.. ;)
and skinning is the same as texturing.. people in the gaming business call it skinning cause one texture file is the models "skin"
skinning can mean attaching bones to a mesh too.. but normally when it comes to games (since that tutorial is at polycount) skinning means texturing, and skinmapping.. uvw mapping.. ^.^
