I believe we all do, this is a model of an image from a book I was given when I was 16 called SPACEDRAFT 2000 to 2100 A.D. and there was not too much detail in it since it was a painting, and also this was my very first rendered image, with my own models. and your english is not as bad as you think, as long as you get your point across is all thet matters.

Hi,
I started out with space and U.F.O.'s too :)

I guess its the best way to learn, without being limited in certain ways.

Keep up to good work !

Pretty cool start. Ive read that you should stay away from lens flares. Anyone else think this?

Good start :)

I can tell you that texturing is an art by itself, and you need to remember that a tiled texture is unnatural and dull.....

Try to paint a whole texture for your planets, unwarp´em and paint the texture using as reference the unwaped mesh.... in that way you can give the exact detail you want to an specific area...

Good luck

Thanks for the replies , I am learning a lot from reading through the forums, this was done over a year ago when I first started modeling, there is just something about it that keeps me comming back to look.

Great job on the overall scene. The planets are a heck of a lot better than I could do, though I think maybe they should be darker?

About the Shark...

If I remember correctly, the wings don't have an upward slope (though maybe i'm not seeing the image correctly) and the pipes that come off the wingtips should be a bit larger.

But heck, it's a great image anyway!

I want to model more stuff from that book. I'm also trying to get a hold of Spacewreck (same author).

I have a model of Object #4 (Proxima Centauri) floating around on my hard drive somewhere. Maybe I'll post a thread here with it just for the heck of it.

Again, great job. :)

I know that picture!
I got the book in my hand as I write this! (well next to me anyway)

The planet culd use some more detailes than a tiled texture, and some shadow.
The ship har larger (black) tubes on the wings. Threre are some smaller fins-things on top of the engine part and nose that does alot for the shape of the ship. the oveall shape needs some tweaking too.
Keep it up.

For those who what to know:
it is was called: K13 Shark
Manufactured by the Proxima Centauri with a 3 man crew and was armed with 2 laser canons and 1 "atomic" gun.

the no lense flair thing is more than just a rumour.....it has been way too overused and even if it seems fitting, it will just be distracting and annoying now. lense flairs only occur when looking at a bright light such as the sun through a lense, and i don't think you meant this picture to be a photograph.

Hay I have Spacewreck and the later to come Galactic Aliens which are a couple of my favorite books, the Sharks do have tghe little fins but the conversion to JPG makes it a bit hard to see them, and the wings are actually straight out the angle just makes them look up,also there is a lense flare in the painting in the book which is why I added it, and as I said this was done about a year ago, I had only been using 3D MAX for a couple of weeks and just gotten Photoshop, so as my first rendering I am proud of it even though I can do so much better nowI am wrighting all this advice down and adding it to my printed off tutorial book I have for my future works thank you for all your honest insite.
