View Full Version : Program to paint texture
ostov 04-05-2004, 10:41 PM Hey guys!
I have to admit that I am not a photoshop fan:surprised
Is there any 2D painting tools out there that is free/very cheap to paint with. I dont need any filters or stuff like that, but I need the standard 2d paint features like "dodge" and "burn" and many more :)
Any help to get?:)

Project Dogwaffle (http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/)
I played with the demo a long time ago and I was rather impressed.
I know that there are some really cool free paint progs out there, but I haven't found them just yet.
Oh, yeah. Gimp 2.0 (http://www.gimp.org) just came out. I've been doing a little messing with the Win port and it is definitely more stable than previous Win ports.
Oh, yeah again. Pixia (http://park18.wakwak.com/~pixia/). Can't really comment on this one, though.

what about painter classic? used to be bundled with low-end wacom tablets if i recall correctly. in case it is sold separately, it'S probably very cheap.
also there's paint shop pro. some prefer this over photoshop for texturing.
pixel32 also comes to mind. rather cheap alternative to photoshop, did look pretty similar as well.
i have no links at hand though. but i'm sure, google will help in locating those tools.

I think the next best thing after Photoshop would have to be Jasc PaintShop Pro (http://www.jasc.com), which I use for all of my texturing. It's not exactly cheap, at 79$ when I bought it two months ago, but it's a very nice program, all in all.. I would at least suggest the 30 day free trial (http://www.jasc.com/products/paintshoppro/), so you can see if you like it or not.. Most of the people I know use it, and are very satisfied :)
I have also heard that The GIMP is good, and while it is free, I have never used it myself..
