View Full Version : To run XSI on my new laptop
kaitokid 04-05-2004, 05:10 PM Hi,
I am going to have a new laptop, Toshiba M30, I wanna run XSI on it. But I have a big problem that it does not have a serial port.
How can I solve this problem? Is there any friend who use M30 and run XSI properly? Please give me any suggestions, Thank you. ^__^

You don't have to have a serial port to run XSI. But you'll need to get a Serial to USB adaptor to support the dongle.
Well I have purchased and returned many of these adapters/port replicators and none have worked w/ XSI... if you have/find one that works could you post the make/model.
Thx

Thanks Ed and JDex for your reply.
Yes, I searched many forums and found that some people use USB->Serial converter well, but some not. I hope that someone can tell me the converter model no. you've used to support the dongle fine.
I also found that some people said that the PCMCIA serial port card is a better choice, is there anyone who use that?
I am going to VFS in ten days, I want to make sure that I can run XSI on my M30 properly. Please help me
Thank you. :p

This one worked for me.

Hello kaitokid,
Did you get the M30 laptop? I was considering myself to buy it too, but I'm having doubts on the small resolution of the monitor, it's 1200x800 right? How does XSI work on that resolution?
Does anyone else has it? It's the only one I can find, locally (not internet), that is a centrino and has an descent graphics card...
thanks

Hello and yes, I've bought M30. The resolution is OK even some warning messages show up when you install XSI. But it is necessary to set a new layout.
