CGTalk - mouse click help

Is there a way to keep track of mouse clicks? I am trying to get this:

Click and drag to select poly's
as soon as mouse button release do ( something )

I have tried mouse tools but it won't let me select things. Unless i can write my own select script...which i don't know how...:eek:
