Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if there are any plug-ins for Maya 5.0 that can unwrap NURBS patches and place textures on them (something similar to the UV polygon mapping)?? Is that even possible?? I`m having problems with multipach NURBS model texturing. Any good advice on how to match textures on it?I`v tried using 3D paint tool to mark the areas of different color but it doesn`t seem precise enough and seams are still visible. I don`t want to convert geomtry to polygons-NURBS only.

Please help!

Since NURBS surfaces have inherent u,v parameters built in to the surface, I don't think it's possible to "unwrap" them. I've had some success with painting areas different colors as you mentioned trying, and then later using 3d paint to eliminate the area right on the seam.

Also, you might want to check each surface's parameterization to make sure textures across the seams end up at close to the same resolution. Check here: http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/tutorials/paramaterization/parameterization.html

Cheers,
Jon
