I know about applying textures and the basics of the material editor, but I'd like to learn more about creating textures in photoshop (like the process and/or file types used, what seamless is, ect ... ) also about how you save custom materials to existing material libraries ect, as well of any other info you guys think is important for a beginner/intemediate max user ... Thanks for any replies, and thank you for your time.

Hit google and look for texture tutorials.

To put a material to the library, use the little buttin in the mat-editor with the sphere and the disk...

Indeed, google is a good source. Maybe the Photoshop section here contains some good things as well :)
