View Full Version : learning on the fly
mogwai 07-09-2002, 02:22 PM hi,
It's my second week in an internship and I've been asked to do some work with Maya Live. In school we spent a whirlwind 3 hours with the plugin.
...anyone know of any good tutorials out there. I'm kind of in a minor bind.
thanks

Yes, do the Instant Maya Unlimited tutorials. The PDF and all the required files for the tuts are on disc 2. The Live section is only like 30 pages long, you can do it in an hour or so, and it'll give you a running start on your project. Any other questions that'll come up while you are working can be answered in the Using Live manual (also on disc 2). There really isn't much to Live. The whole manual is only 72 pages long. Read it and you won't need any tutorials.
Actually, if you just hit F1 in Maya and click the link for Live, I think it's the exact same manual as the Using Live manual pdf. (I always forget F1) It's about 72 pages and will tell you everything you need to know.

thanks,
I shouldn't be as skeptical to help files as I am.
...too many bad experiences with Microsoft Help files that tell you nothing.

have done a maya live project a while ago (thnx AW for spnsoring Unlimited to our uni). the hard task is not to use and setup maya live. the bad thing is to make and place good tracking markers. for this project i played around with black crosses as markers on walls etc. this was my fault :D the tracking markers should be little dots with a good color to recognize for live. at least you need 8 stationary tracking points (absolutely minimum) another important point is to set up the alignment with your original maya scene. therefore you need a good plan where you place your markers in the liveaction.
was a very workfull task for me the first time. but if you come behind the idea you will get through.
happy tracking :)
