It's my understanding that the radiosity solution in MAX 5 (and VIZ 4), are based on the old Lightscape radiosity engine.

In Lightscape you were able to dial in the precision you wanted and off it would go, but the best bit was that you could stop the computation at any time and it would save it as the finalsolution.
This was great because the last 10% or so of the light to be distributed could take ages to compute but add very little to the final look of the render. In other words you could stop the solution whenever it looked good enough.

Will we be able to do this in MAX 5 as it's a major time saver ?

Due to NDA's no actual beta tester is going to be allowed to reply to your question........perhaps someone going to a demo might be able to help?

3dsmax 5 has 2 advanced lighting modes i think
One Radiosity that is the "same" as lightscape
Two light tracer thats is a global ilumination system, at first similar to others found in brazil,vray...

I hope it has some real GI, radiosity sucks for Animations :p

For architectural work it's ok, but GI is more flexible...
