View Full Version : Mental ray max6 bump problem
authentic 04-01-2004, 07:52 AM Hello I'm a newbie in Mental ray 6 so some difficulties appear. I got a pb with a bump mapping on max6 with mental ray. The lights make very hard edge so there are like boxes on my map. The differents lights are mr omni lights.
Ok I try to put a picture to show you, I hope it works...

Could you tell me how many lights you have in your scene and what kind of shadows you are using? (raytraced, area, shadowmap?) Maybe there is the problem. I first encountered some problems with MR in various areas at first but was able to work around them in every case so maybe I can help you out here.
MR is just awesome if set up properly. ;)

My light setup was made of Mr omni with area shadow off. But I have made many other tests and it seems that the problem doesn't come from the lights and not from MR alone. The problem is the same with max6 ( and 5, i try ) render. Only as mental ray has a better bump, it is more impressive. I don't find how to resolve the pb so I decide to use displacement even if i find it very slow.
