Total Textures v5 (http://www.3dtotal.com/services/cds_new/v5.asp)

Total Textures v5 is a collection of Dirt masks and maps which come in 3 different categories. These are : Individual maps that are not suitable for tiling, such as paint splats and stains. Maps which tile horizontally such as the grime under a window, and Maps which are fully tileable. Each of these categories are then split into light, medium and heavy dirt, giving you many options to obtain just the type of surface you are aiming for.

These Masks and maps have many uses, the main ones being as a mask to mix twotextures together or being placed as a layer over an existing texture to add in detail and 'dirty it up'. Other uses can be to apply the textures as shadow maps or use them in 2d texture editing.

All image maps have been obtained from original photography. Many textures are seamless (painted out by hand) and come in large range of resolutions ( approx.500x350 - 2000x1500) Here is the CD's full contents :-

Your Welcome. But, being that I am a "Non affiliated third party" as you said - To either 3Dtotal, or CGnetworks. I'm not willing to pull punches on any question I might have, but the most common question I think of when I get curious about these texture CD's is something like this:
It's obvious high qualitly work can be produced from these texture CD's. How are they different from free downloadable textures online, and why?

Well Onlooker, Thanks again for posting this news, I will try to answer your question as best as i can,

Textures vary a lot in quality as there are many points that make up a very good texture and as yet I havent ofund any free textures that include all of these :-

Firstly they are captured with high quality camera equipment by artists who have a lot of experience in what makes a good texture
They are hi res around the 1400 pixel mark
Balanced (dark and light areas to assist tiling)
Balanced (colours to assist smooth tiling)
Seams painted out by hand (this is the main task)
Obvious repeating sections adjusted to improve tiling
Bump maps properly painted (much more work than just a greyscale and contrast tweak)

I would estimate around 3 hours of work are put in per texture by skilled artists. I think this really sums up why they are different to free downloadable ones.

We also provide a constant stream of tutorials using them which are free for all on line and updated most weeks.

Man thanks
