Zemeckis to Direct Transformers?
Tuesday March 30, 2004

Coming in from Wizard World's Los Angeles convention, producer Tom DeSanto revealed to Inland Empire Strikes Back (www.iesb.net) that Oscar-winning FOREST GUMP director Robert Zemeckis will helm THE TRANSFORMERS feature. In addition, the site claims that New Line Cinema will distribute the film and TV series' voice actors Frank Welker and Peter Cullen will reprise their roles. The tentative date for the film's release is Dec. 2006. Until further confirmation can be made this is just hearsay, but both Zemeckis and New Line have been attached to possible participators in the past.

 with joy + :buttrock:

Original voice of Optimus Prime! Zemekis at the helm! ooooo, this could be soooo kickass....aw, I'm geeking out. Sorry. ;)

I'd read once about a possible 2005 release...now end of 2006. As long as it actually happens and is done right of course!

And some related TF/realistic bots linkage to whet the appetite...

holy crap, that's going to be one amazing film. Robert Zemekis is by far one of my favorite directors. he just understands technology to the point that nothing daunts his ability to tell a story. in the hands of a lesser director, a movie like "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" would have just fallen apart in the computer-less era it was made.

Wow, pretty cool! Please don't let Tom Hanks be in this movie, and no Polar Express looking little kids.

I'm gonna watch the original Transformers movie right now!

There is not one peep about this in any of the trade magazines. Hollywood Reporter, Variety, not even gossip sites like Ain't It Cool, Dark Horizons or CHUD.

Until it shows up int the trades, it's fanboy bullplop. BULLPLOP!

I heard that this thing was going to be live-action. Has there been a change in plans?

Yep, good point...its stated as more rumor than definite at this point. Tried to be careful, adding the (?)...I've read other older accounts that Zemekis was at the top of the list of considerations. I guess we'll see!

Don't think so...its live action, with CG bots, AFAIK. Sorry for any confusion in the subject line....

I guess my slight worry with Zemekis is if it would be "too" kiddie-fied. Lots of TF fans I think would like to see it a bit more hardcore, realistic...lots of battles, some deaths (though maybe not so many or quickly as in the original *REAL* movie ;) ). You know. Also read some debates over wether it will actually be set in the 80s and go all out with the 80s vibe...soundtrack and all... ??? I think that would suit it well...and kind of help tie it in with those Speilbergian epics of the time ;) E.T. etc...

the problem with making it pure realism and gore is that half of what I'm sure they're considering their target audience will be eliminated by making it uber-violent. i'm sure half their motivation for making a transformers movie would be for people of *all* ages to go and enjoy it. that's been the case with almost all of zemekis's films thus far.

Ummm it's a movie remake of a kids cartoon, why should it be made to appeal to kids? I definately think it should be PG at the maximum. Star Wars was, so it's obviously possible to make a good action film at that rating.

The mention of this movie being live action makes me think of "The Returner"... you tell me if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Transforming airplanes... hmmmm

The difficulty in translating something like Transformers into film form today, is living up to the emotional impact the show had on us when we were five, yet mature the storyline so that it still targets the now 20-30 something audience.
I truly hope that, along the same lines as the animated movie, they bump up the action/violent content, and not take a step backwards (ala current star wars) and gear the movie towards younger children.

Hey I like transformers and I'm 13 (nearly 14) so they better make it one I could watch or else I'll be really gutted!!:hmm:

I thought Speilburg (did I spell it right) was going to direct it?:curious:

Are they making two coz that would be wierd?
