View Full Version : Swamp Dragon
Reeks 07-09-2002, 08:53 AM Hi all-
Base rendered in Maya, retouched in photoshop
http://www.ricoholmes.com/Gallery/Images/Green_Dragon_800.jpg
- it's a follow up to another image (Maya rendered onto photoshop B/G).>Link< (http://www.ricoholmes.com/Gallery/Images/Midnight.htm) and one of a series of Dragons based on colour.
While neither are entirely Maya I was after a painted finish anyway -this is just spare time stuff inspired by the classic fantasy artists..

very technical! amazing water. I'd add a bit more texture-color to the dragon's skin. apart from that, it's a fantastic composition:buttrock:

It's a really nice pic, even if I think that painting over a 3d rendering is not a good thing... 3d is 3d, and painting is painting! I don't like hybrids!

Hi Reeks - Very Very nice. I particularly like the lighting you've chosen, has a formal portrait studio feel to it that for some reason seems appropriate. I looked at the larger version on your site which is a more impressive version. I thought the larger image might show why the left hand seems peculiar but I don't understand your intention.
Excellent

i'd like to see just the 3D, and also a wireframe.
i really like the style, your work is very good. its always rad to see 3D being used in ways that we don't see every day.
fantastic!!
yeah, the 3d image withouth photoshop editing would be nice

Lovely painting/render! And dragons are always cool :) Looking forward to the next colour.
Would it be possible to see what's painted and what's modeled? As it is now, I'd guess that the dragon, water and maybe the trees are painted with some post processing on them... Care to share?

Sugestion: It would be nice if he were a bit more glossy from the water, i.e. add some highlights.

Love this dragon! Reminds me of the Frazetta painting "Swamp Demon" I believe. It could use possibly just a little more texturing on the arms but it is dang cool as it is!!!

-As mentioned above, sort the minor quibbles with the hand and it would be perfect.
