hi all,

this might sound a little stupid, but every now and then i'm facing the term "non-manifold geometry", which i simply do not understand at all ! :wip:

i already read all of the explanations in maya's documetation and even got it translated by several services like babylon and such, but i do not grasp the whole meaning of "non-manifold" !

so can someone please enlighten my tortured brain ?
thanks a lot

Oh and the other weird one's like "lamina faces" and such... I'd like a good explanation for those too, thanks :)

As simple as it can be put, manifold topology geometry means it's a solid continuous surface that can be unfolded without any faces overlapping each other.

Having an edge that is connected to more than two faces. or two faces connected by just a single vertex, or adjacent faces with opposing normals is considered non-maifold, because it breaks the surface continuity, and screws up your normals in the process.

Lamina Faces, is when you have faces that share all edges. Build a polygon plane, mirror it so you have two planes in the exact same spot facing opposite of each other. Combine the two planes and merge their vertecies. You now have a plane made of lamina faces.
