View Full Version : odd C4d behavior
Pillboxx 03-30-2004, 08:22 AM This has really upset me just recently with C4d. Ii don't know if I did something wrong to cause this, if it can be fixed or if this is just a bug. But working on my first model still, and my last 2 file saves have a very odd behavior. When using the point tool, I think it is called, and trying to move a point around, it moves in a very jerky and unpredictable manner. I can no longer move a point in a controled manner.
I save my projects alot. This one has thousands of tweeks. And has been save over the time I worked on it over 300 times. But even though I save often. I may have over a dozen or more tweeks in various locations on the model. I just lost all that work because of this bug.
Has anyone else here had this problem?
I have a Mac running OS 10.3.3 Cinema 4d 8.2 and Mesh Surgery.
I hadn't noticed the problem because I was using the slide tool and katana during most of the tweaks.
Well, back to work on an earlier version. I just hope it doesn't happen again. I was slow enough as it is to start backtraking. Ugh!

You probably already checked but have you by accident activated snapping?

Um...no. I am still new to this and 3d modeling concepts. I did not check. It was enabled. I never even look at that screen. Thank you.
Now time to go bang my head against the wall. Doh.
Hi,
maybe you zoomed the editor camera out too much? To test this create a simple camera from the view you are using and check the focal length. if it is much larger then 35 you have created a strong zoom and the camera itself is very far away, leading to distortions and rounding problems in the calculation when working on a smaller scale.
To fix this switch the view camera to parallel and back to perspective.
Hope this helps

I've had this problme once. It was something with OGL settings.
Try to desactivate the OGL Hardware lighting.

thanks for the reply Shrek but rirad was right. I had accidently activated the snap settings. I never use those so I didn't know what was wrong. Once again rirad thanks.
This is not the first time I have experienced strange behavior. Of course it may be user created.
Such as...Sometimes when I go to save, it may say untitled.c4d in the dialog box instead of the name of the file I am using. And if I dare save it like that I lose alot of information such as symmetry and other stuff.
And awhile back I think I copy and pasted something into the project and now the center point for the symmetry object is no longer at 0, but is now at 3.95m. Very odd. That I can live with.
Now I don't know if it is something I did again or what. Oh well. The life of a noob.

You're welcome. Snapping is really useful when you need it, but it can be a pain if it’s on without consent. :)

I don't know if this could be what you did to make your centre point not be at 0; but, this is what I've noticed while modelling. When I am tweaking a set of points along the seam, a lot of times I miss the next point I want to select. Then I notice that the already selected points would move a little after I click/miss the next point and if I don't notice it to do an undo, the centre points would move a little so that they aren't at 0 anymore. Then I notice the seam in the centre of my model. When I first started learning cinema (not that long ago), I wouldn't notice doing this for quite awhile and then would have to set the seam points to 0 again. Maybe this isn't what is happening with you; but, it might be something to look at/keep in mind.
