View Full Version : Which movie-format to use on a CD-Rom...?

Hi y'all,

I just finished a 3D-presentation. In fact the presentation is just one 3D-animation of approx. 7 minutes. Now I want to put this animation self-running on CD-Rom.

I've tried to render it as a Quicktime with Sorensen 3 codec (720x388) but even on my machine (dual Xeon 2,7 - 2GbRAM - 980XGL) it fails to play smoothly.

So I need a solution that it plays smoothly also on slower machines.

What is best to use? AVI, Mpeg? And what codec?

(1) XviD
Seems to preserve more details than other Codecs.

Download some high definition video (1280x720/1920x1024) at www.wmvhd.com to see for yourself. I recomend "Magic of Flight".

(3) DivX
www.divx.com

(4) Real Video 9
Get of the front-ends at forum.doom9.net under the section "New A/V Formats - Codecs". It is good at low bit-rate encoding.

All of the above Codecs/Encoders except DivX can be had for free. for DivX, you need to pay for it or use the adware-laden ones.
