This is the first concept, there will probably be more, I still need to think up a major purpose of it but I think that this will turn out great. The tentacles will be robotic with a jelly substance (like a jellyfish) around it. I can go two ways with the top part, Completely metal with jelly around it (The pink one) or I can have metal-tentacle things which would probably make more sense (The blue one). I'll have to look around and find a type of Jellyfish that looks like that, but it shouldn't be too hard.

I need a specific purpose for it, I'm thinking of possibly for it to be moving stuff through the ocean (chains and cargo) but that's not really a good purpose. My friend thought about maybe doing a Hydra instead of a Jellyfish since they are both in the same phylum Cnidaria. I'm hoping to be able to fake Sub-Surface-Scattering with Max for the jelly parts. We'll see how it goes.

Here is a test on the tentacles of the Jellyfish, I really like the jellyish texture but I'll need to work on the texture for the metal to make it look more metalic.

Does anyone want to comment?

This is a good concept.
It is hard to comment at this point. You might need to refine the concept sketch, just for us to get a better idea.
I don't think that you really need a purpose for the jelly fish.
My suggestion would be to create a very detail model and a nice environement.

I was just thinking while writing this that the jelly fish could be like station but as I said 5 line earlier, I am not sure that it really need to have a purpose rather than just be a living creature.

I thought about an idea that the jellyfish are modified to go through the ocean and collect food. I would like to have it grabbing a fish with one of its tentacles. Inside of it's body I would like toshow more fish that it has caught. So I need to make out a paragraph about it's purpose but I'll do that later. I'm working on a concept for it's purpose but I'm not really a good artist(drawing).

I still need to fix some of the textures on the tentacle, but at least the poly count is pretty good. I have some ideas for the top and I hope it turns out good. I hope I win this contest I really need the computer, my Emachines is a bit behind the times.

After not working on it for I while I've decided to get it done before the deadline :P so here is a texturing pic of the top, don't pay attention to the modeling because that's just the outside.

I've done some modeling on the inside with it's body cavity, mechanical 'ribs' and also I put it the tentacles. I'll be adding some more stuff to the inside walls to pull the mechanical and the real parts together, and I'll be adding what it's real purpose is.

I set up the background with the rocks and the ocean fading away, and put the jellyfish in front of it to give you the idea of how it's going to turn out. Note:This is not a rendering.

Tonight I will be rendering out the final image, I'm rendering it at the size they said in the rules, 2657x3636 which end up being 3 feet by 4 feet, kinda large so I'll leave it on tonight.

I rendered all night, but there are a few problems, I would have rendered out a new one but it was taking way too long, so I'm going to fix the problems in PS and then send off the final image.

I've got lighting done, made it darker, I think, plus I fixed the other problems.
