Thanks

I don't know anything about that script.

But you should look into position and rotation constraints. They may be a bit more complicated but they will do the trick. :)

Ya i was fooling around with all the constraints and such with no good results so i went to the script and still nothing

very frusterating it is

Peace out

pickung up objects most of the time is done by simply doing a point constraint.

so let's assume you have a hand and an object.

1. i always group the object before doing constraint to have much more control
2. point constraint the group to the hand, so that the hand is master (the group follows the hand)
in the option box set the weight to 0 for start
3. animate the hand to the position just before it grabs the object
4. set a key for the weight of the constraint with 0
5. grab the object, not the group and set a key for the rotate values
5. go a few frames ahead where it really touches the object
6. set a key for the weight with 1 (on the goup)
7. grab the object and rotate till it fits into the hand and set again key for the rotate values

that's it . the other way (releasing the object) is simply the same only the the weights for the constraint from 1 to 0 key

hope this helps a bit

---edit---

uhh just forget. after creating the group set the pivot of the group to the original position of the objects pivot. this is the point where the point constraint looks at, so it's important

THANKS !!!!!!!!!

worked like a charm
that was the most thorough explanation ive ever gotten (teachers included)

Thanks again

Alternatevely you could duplicate the object and parent it to the hand, then key the visability of the old and new objects so that there's a switchover between the two...

Of course this means that there are few more objects in the scene and sometime you may have to tweak a frame or two..

Still, it works...
