View Full Version : Riddle me this max man?
been meaning to ask this question for a while now, say I have two editable polys, lets say I started with a sphere and a box.,..
why cant I weld any vertices from the sphere to the box? maybe im doing somthing wrong, I dunno....
and this just because its funny:bounce:

Because you must first attach the sphere to the box.

You can't weld verts of objects that have polygons between them. Firts you have to delete the polygon, then weld those verts (after you've attached both objects ofcourse).

It is as athens says above...
This is one of the differences between editable poly and editable mesh. With a mesh you can weld vertices, regardless of their characteristics. The problem with doing this type of modelling is, it adds polygons that are not needed. It also adds in polygons that are hidden behind other polygons sharing the same space. The latter can cause some very odd anomolies when it comes to texturing and animation, as the underlying polygon face can poke to the surface and make a noticable texture shift to the model.
ok, cool thanks, I guess the reason I was trying it this way is because it seems very awkward trying to extrude polys from a box to make into a head, it just doesnt seem to look right when I start it....
but guess I just gotta try it out more.

it is not a very good idea to make a head out of a spere. a spere will not smooth well because of the poles
it would be better if you use a box with a sperify modifier applied to.
good luck!
cool, thanks for the tip bud. im new to box modeling but have absoultly fell in love with it.
