Just put together a new system using a Gigabyte K7 Triton board (GA-7VT600) with the KT600 chipset. I have taken test parts from my own system to test onto the board. I have plugged in my Hercules Radeon 8500LE, which I know works, a stick of my memtested Corsair Value Select 512MB PC3200, and my working Athlon XP 2100. However, on post, I get a blank screen with no system beep. It likes to beep when there is no heat sink on though. So at least i know that part works. Anyhow, I've also used a Athlon XP 2600+ on that (barton core), but it too did not work. That CPU came with the board though, so I don't know if it'll work or not. The power supply is an older Sparkle power supply with a rating of about 300 watts. Anyhow, just a reminder, all these parts I know for sure work except for the board and the Athlon XP 2600. I've tried booting with nothing plugged in, just CPU, RAM, and video. No post.

So is it the board or the power supply or am I missing something entirely?

Have you tried reseting the bios?

oh yah, here's the ghett0 part. This particular board has no function to reset the BIOS except remove the battery. But yeah, did that, no go. Oh, to add. After I did that, and after doing a couple other things, the screen flashed white and black and white many many times and went black. Video card is OK, because they were working pulls from the previous system for which this is an upgrade to.

Anyhow, I looked @ the board, and I think my brother screwed the installation of the heat sink. He forced in something too big to fit and it mushed a capacitor, effectively lifting it from the socket. I think that definitely would do some damage. I just finished re-packaging everything quite neatly in hopes newegg.com will take it and give me my partial refund (less the restocking fee). I'll be glad for any refund @ this point since after that kind of damage, they probably won't give me anything at all.

I'll be getting a new board tomorrow or Monday when I haul my @ss to the post office (will probably swing by Fry's Electronics shortly after the post office).

But on another side note, the power supply, only 300 watt. It seems fine enough, but I do have a SCSI card in there, an ATA100 controller, and a 4x AGP video card, and quite a few other peripherals I want to be using. 300 watt doesn't seem enough, or is it?

Sing,

When you return the board, exchange it for a Nforce2 class board. You'll find you'll be much happier later in the build :). Anything other then an nforce2 board would be a sacrifice in features, stability, and reliability.

I'd put an Antec 330 Truepower in there. Should run the system fine. Thats the general PSU I use for XP's. (2400-2700+)

haha, yes, nForce2 is the way to go. Just got a Shuttle nForce2 board for my lil bro's system. This time I'm doing the installing. My older bro isn't touching it....

ah, the most fun part is that there are no capacitors around the CPU, yay! And there are mounting holes for a Zalman... hahaha, but we already spent the cash for a Vantec Aerofan. Ah, hope things work out. :scream:
