Hi,

I'm Max user.

Donīt like to unwrap my UVW maps, because when you make changes in the mesh you loose the Unwrap modifier.

Iīd like to know if that happens in all softwares or itīs just something that happens with max.

I like to let my character open to changes in wireframe.

Would like as well to know if there are plugins or tool to keep the unwraping even when you modify the mesh.

Anyone can tell, please?

Thanks a lot.

To preserve the uv layout you should convert the model with the unwrap modifier to a editable poly (or mesh). This way the uv's will be kept in the model not in the modifier. To modify later the uv you can aply another Unwrap Modifier. You can modify the model but you have to be carefful not to modify the open edges, and try not to change the vertex position(better to create another ones with the cut tool and remove the old ones).

Hi mikudi,

Thank you very much for your answer, but Iīm afraid that what you say is nothing new for me.

Obviously, if you collapse the stack you lose the UVW Unwrap modifier applied (ok, UVW settings are stuck in the mesh, but that happens as well without collapsing), and what I want is to keep it (not to lose it) even when you make changes in the mesh.

If you make a box, for example, you apply an UVW modifier, then you apply an Unwrap modifier and you move the vertices editing the unwrap modifier. Ok, then you go back to your mesh and you divide some edges. Then return to the Unwrap modifier and you will see that all the movements of vertices you made are lost. That is what I wouldnīt like to happen.

If you have a complex mesh itīs very hard to lose all the unwraping when you want to modify the wireframe.

Probably applications donīt have a good solution for this yet. But I donīt think it would be very difficult to get. The mesh is the same in the Unwrap modifier and in the mesh, why changes in the mesh canīt be transmited to the unwrap modifier without losing the position of vertices you have set in the unwrap modifier.

I have a personal way to get what I want without using the Unwrap modifier, but with this thread my purpose was to know if this happens as well in other applications (Maya, Lightwave,...) or if there are plugins or other software giving a solution to this.

If someone knows something about that, Iīd like to know it.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

You didn't understand my answer (or i don't understand your words). After collapsing the stack the modified position of the vertices will be kept in the model.
After colapsing you can modify the mesh and if you aply another Unwrap Modifier you will see that the uv have the position you modified.
I am using this tehnique to tweak the models even after i made the texturemap. Maybe i don't understand what you realy want, but try what i said in the exact order, and might be what you want.
Hope i have been of some help.

Your last post makes your answer more clear to me.

I had wrongly supposed that the new Unwrap would be completely new, and it keeps unwraped setting the same that in the former modifier, as you said.

Thanks again for your help.:)

(if you did read my previus answer in this post, sorry, I said something wrong; take this one for good)
