Hi!

I made this flash movie about 6 months ago using Maya, Photoshop and Flash. I waited a long time to release it to newgrounds b/c my website wasn't finished and it has a link to tylak.com at the very end.

Anyway, its just under 5mb b/c thats the NG requirement. So the compression shows quite a bit in the images and lack of frames per animation.

That aside.... I hope you enjoy the show!

Red Planet (http://tylak.com/projects01.html)
you will need to scroll down the page just a bit.

The reason I'm posting this is for one, just b/c I think you guys will like it... a lot of guns and blood and the usual stuff. But also because I'm planning on making another flash movie using the same technique but refined a little bit and I think I could use some more advice on just how to go about it.

Here are the suggestions I've received so far.
- use a smaller movie size so that more memmory can be used in the actual animation.
- animated more with motion (when possible) rather than frames
- base the movie around storyline, rather than just a fight
- make it longer

I also have new ideas about the technical process, to make things go a little smoother and have a better looking product. And I want to include a leve of interactivity... but I need suggestions on that.

Also, the next movie will not be Warhammer 40k.

Well thats enough yappin outta me. Let me know what you think!

I head some elephants and even the Windows Pinball game startup!!!

I have a couple of suggestions but I want to collect my thoughts before I put them all down. My main problem is that there is a camera shake when the pod hits the planet...totally unnecessary. Maybe replace it with a longer re-entry/burning animation.

The cougar (or whatever big cat) sounds didn't really capture the feel of the aliens. With a little cleaning up and better blood effects it could be better.

i think the reason why you had so many viewers but no comments was because people might of had a hard time finding the flash video. I mistakenly downloaded your demo reel at first(or maybe i'm just dumb.. arg...) haha

anyways, I liked the idea of the red planet. it's pretty cool.

as mentioned before, the camera shake seems a bit weird.
because you can't really see the ship land yet you see
the planet shake.

maybe if you have a scene showing the spacecraft crashing, and have this dramatic impact scene, then a shake would see to fit in better. i like how you had a soldier dead already after the crash showing they aren't invicible heros or anything.

one small thing i noticed was shortly after the first guy died, there was one scene where the alien was coming at the soldier, and he was firing his gun except the solider wasn't facing the right direction.

sound effects could be a bit better and the animation was quite
choppy. but i like the gun sound effects.

i look forward to seeing your next animation =)

Thanks guys, good feedback.

I meant to include the word "crude" in the thread title but it slipped me. Anyhow....

You're right about the shake.... damn ya know, that was my first camera shake.... I beefed it!

But I'm still excited about this technique of flash animation b/c I haven't seen it done very often (if at all). Most flash consists of the same cartoon style bubbly looking characters. Even when its very well done its never that exciting.

I have some new characters and an actual story idea. So hopefully I can build on what I've learned with Red Planet.

Plus I still like the splat splat splat kick you in your alien head action.... maybe that's just me.

btw AzNightmare, did you like my reel?

The only thing i have noticed is that the action is a bit slow, might be cause of the way the characters where made or just too long motion tweens. Still it was impressive to see how u managed to handle urself with all of it. As for the sound, reminds me counter strike but there might be better the music fits the scene.

Good job.

it's original, some movements are maybe slow but I think it depends on the pc speed since it's a flash animation. Anyway I like it :)
