View Full Version : Looking to make an animated DVD
Hey all, I've been working on getting a project off the ground and wanted to ask if anyone would like to join in our endeavors.
There are two projects I am currently working on.
1 is a flash animated 3d cartoon. That is more of a personal project.
2 is a direct to dvd short film, with a behind the scenes and a making of type extras, along with various other folks shorts and such who want to contribute.
1 example of this being done is D7Peacemaker. www.d7peacemaker.com
Here are some of the works we are doing so far. My friend and I have been working on a comic book together, but want to make this story digital in 3d, due to time, I've found filters depending on the program you use that can render this to look like it is paster.
Here are some of the pages of the comic and possible storyboard.

I will keep you posted on further developments and other screenshots of the movie and the flash movie
I would like to take this opportunity to ask for help, possibly in the animation department if any one would like to volunteer.
But first we'll have a vote, I will be posting up the characters to various series and see what you think would be best, thus involving everyone in the production, even if its jsut to vote for the characters. You'll soon see. Take care and I hope some folks would like to work on the project with me.
thanks
Shawn

Hey, Flog...if you want, I can probably make a better model for ya now. :) I've gotten way better since I made the last one.
Hey Teyon,
I thought you fell off the map bro!!! Great to hear from you. I was gonna suprise you later with a check in the mail, a free dvd and some credit, hehehehehehe!!!
If no one has seen earlier posts of the Flog model, this is Teyon, you've probably seen his work hither and thither. He is a great modeller and modelled the original Flog. The one you see above. He actually has helped me get the ball rolling. Still working on so many differant angles.
In the last few years I have learned more and more in modelling myself. Nothing near as good as Teyon
Where have you been bro? Hey here is my new email sarms@austin.rr.com
Still managing. Hey do you animate now? I remember you not animating before.
Well its been a long journey of learning and trying to get things situated. I was always attempting to much at one time.
Well I do have good news, when I can get this movie done and finished I have secured some funds to get it put on dvd. I've even found a printer to do so at a great price. Right now I"m putting some final touches on 3 scripts, then the team I am putting together and this forum will vote. I have a few writers who will help me refine the script. Wow no wonder it takes Pixar and Disney 4 years to make a movie, heheheh. Lots of work!!
What do you think about the story above? Its kinda a greek Jason and the ARgonauts type story. The main character is a demigod, deformed demigod. His mother died giving birth and he was raised by his grandmother. He is soon banished from the city and goes on travels simliar to the Odyssey. Its a modern day Odessyey.
Write me at sarms@austin.rr.com. Thanks for the offer.
PS I don't see how you could have gotten any better, your already the bomb!!!

Thanks for the kudos, pal. I think the artwork has lots of strong points to it though from the panels shown, it's a little too medium shot heavy for my tastes. I like to mix it up a lot if I can, ya know? Looking at the pages shown, I'd guess they aren't completely consecutive. There seems to be a small gap in the story (the story, by the way, feels like it is going somewhere) between the first page shown and the second page shown. You also never really get a good idea of where any of the characters are in relation to each other or of the environment but again, if the pages are out of sequence, that's to be expected.
I'm glad to hear about the DVD and will jump in line to get one when they're ready!
I've gotten a good grasp of MAX though I don't have acess to that any longer and I have channeled my workflow into a Rhino>WINGS>UVMAPPER PRO>POSER setup. I model the parts or the entire figures in Rhino, clean up the mesh in Wings, UVmap them in UVMapper Pro, and then order out for rigging in Poser. I still haven't gotten the grasp of rigging yet. :( Sadly, Poser is the only posing/animation tool I own right now, though I did DL XSI exp but I can't make money off of anything I make with that so I haven't used it much.
I'd love to swap snapshots of models with ya. You can reach me at Teyon@renderosity.com
hehehe the story above is actually missing two pages, I did not post on purpose. You miss a lot of action in 2 pages, well actually come to think of it, 3 pages are missing.
Actually during the project Poser will be the backbone of project. Simply because A) its easier to rig in Poser than most programs b) 3d World magazine actually did a comparison of Poser, Lifeforms, Motionbuilder, and some other programs for animating specifically the body, and POSER won, so it is a good animation program.
c) It is a good hub between programs. I brought propack and it will export, full scenes with animations to Lightwave, Max, Cinema4d, Maya and Carrara. Plus it imports and exports normally, everything in the book.
People downplay the program but really it is powerful. I can make a character in WINGS 3d, rig it then import it to another program with everything in tact, skeleton and animation.
Also if I was simply animating, Poser does BVH. So its part of the pipeline.
Its underestimated.
I was going to do a flash cartoon of Flog and actually did a few, but since I secured the funds to actually have dvds printed up. I thought, hey, why not do a dvd with an episode and a making of, similiar to
www.d7peacemaker.com
http://www.wordware.com/ghostwarrior/
and
http://www.studioartfx.com/
I was thinking these guys are doing it, there should be more guys doing this and making a living or at least some promotion or side cash, but most importantly making something they can be proud of and show folks.
Thats what I want to do.
So I'm between 3 stories, and actually once the team is fully assembled going to do a vote so that it will be a team project.
I have narrowed it down to 3 stories, and one will get made.
So its been a lot of work and saving for this.
So you still in managing?
What demographic do you think would be best
All ages action
http://www.vooz.co.kr/musicvideo/timeisup.htm
Peetzaman and Chovi is slated to look like this.
Boys 11-20+ action
Which would be Kalimar and Flog
http://www.wordware.com/ghostwarrior/
but with a more cartoony look. Well like the comic above for Kalimar.
For Flog a little more realistic, kinda like DOA looking characters, slightly real, slightly cartoony.
Hope other folks from this forum get involved, I found a lot off of another sight.
Yeah I'll send you some pics of my goofy models.
I'll email em to you...is it still the same?
am planning to make a child friendly movie in that style for the main
character. The story is about Peetzaman and Chovi. This was a character
created as a joke by an evil mad scientist, it was a joke to his colleague
to make the most ridiculous looking Hero he could to beat his super robot.
Well the story starts out as Peetzaman wants to become a hero and join the
Liberty League of Heroes. Its made up of stereotype hereos and parody
heroes. They will not let him in the group because he doesn't have the look
and he looks to goofy for their team of hot babes and musclemen and super
cool mutants and monsters. They make excuses for him not to join the team.
First excuse was he had no side kick. He finds a side kick. Second excuse
is he has no base of operations so he tries to find a place to live. Excuse
after excuse.
He has a love interest in a beautiful superheroine who is a newer member of
the Liberty League. She is very sympathetic to him. She even provides him
a home and her friendship. She is torn between wanting to be on the cool
Team and her two short friends. Later a villian attacks with his giant hero
crushing robot. The Liberty League is all but defeated and knocked out.
Peetzaman saves the day, but the Liberty League ends up taking all the
credit and Peetzaman is still not on the team. Only one person really
noticed and that is the Evil Villian himself who Peetzaman defeated. He is
the most powerful villian ever, think the Lex Luthor or Dr. Doom of his
universe. He knows that Peetzaman defeated him, he is bored with the
Liberty League and already knows he can defeat them. Peetzaman ends up
being the new challenge and so now the most powerful villian has directed
his sights to Peetzaman, this little unpopular, non scary hero. Its
Astroboy style fun.

This really looks awesome. It seems you are pretty organized and all that. Good luck! Well, I know you are looking for modelers and maybe animators, but I will like to ask if there is a spot for a writer maybe? I am interested in writing the episodes/stories with whomever is currently writing them, I am guessing it is you Flog? But anyways, I will like to know if I can contribute in that part, I am looking forward to read your reply. Thanks for reading, and keep it up!
This collab is open to everyone.
Right now I have the synopses, and outline of the story. Working on script, then storyboards.
There is a place in the collab for all. In fact if you'd like to look over the story and think of good dialect in certain areas or you have a script portion in mind you can definately be a part of the team.
Or if you have a good idea for a generic superhero, then that is open too!!
I can send you the outline if you do not already have it. Everyone is invited.

I would love to be part of the team, and yeah I will like you to email me the outline if it is no much bothering. My email is yeyeman9@momt.net . I added you to my AIM list, so I am looking forward to chat with you more in-depth about this. Thanks a lot for your fast reply.
