Wow, so deeply metaphorical

nice concept. Love the idea of no natural light.. gives u the chance to play with lighting in a cool way on the final image!
I guess all i could suggest would be a request to see the machine part melded with the guy a bit more. Right now it kinda looks like a back pack which gives me the idea that the steam engine is just powering the light, which is a lot of machinery for just the one light.
maybe think about showing that the engine powers the man also.
Good Luck!
thanks for your post on my thread,
Simon

a little history about the character:
the concept of this character is determinated for the environment conditions of the place were he lives, where maybe no natural light exist or is extremily insuficient. Maybe the place is a yale or a underground minery station, or maybe both, in that case the mine work would be considerated a sentense of "heavy works", in this conditions the production of light is a first degree need, in order to satisfy the need of light, the habitants of the colony used dead road prisioners to develope a powerfull light device easy to transport and with minimal mantenance cost.
the machine has two functions, produce light based in a system inspirated in a "petromax" old lamp, and help the prisioner to loud the heater that is his back, all technology used in the device is mechanical, there doesn`t exist any digital or electronic component.
the union between this man and the machine is basicaly quirurgical, the machinery anchored to the spine and pelvis of the man restricting his movility and leting him only to walk.
C & C, are welcome!!!
good luck to all challengers!!!!

Your concept is interesting.
But what about bigger eyes? If he lives in the dark, evolution and mutation accomodate him to the environment. So I believe he must have huge pupils in his very big eyes to receive as much as possible from light he creates. :lightbulb

I still working in the concept sketch, focusing in the union area between the machinery and the slave...
suggestions are welcome!!!
dunkel
03-28-2004, 08:55 PM
syeko, I try to detail the area where the machinery is "welded" to the slave, is better now?
saschi, I think in the idea of big eyes, but originally this man not lives in the dark, I am trying with the idea of atrophied eyes or "super lens", but put him glasses not is a very original idea, maybe I use the eyes to give him a more emotive expresion.

This is coming along great - the sketch is phenominal and the face captures a tortured sole... I think the way the machinery meshes with his skin is really well done- the way you see the mechanics beneath the flesh is pretty horrific!

Hi Dunkel,
really groovy, you are on the best way becoming one of the firsts here in this contest for me. Fat Compliment:thumbsup:
Your head's really expressional and in conjunction to your sketch very impressive.
One constructive critic. I think the eyes (means the whole eye) are a little bit to wide in their horizontal direction. A little bit squeezing and it's perfect, would you agree?:bounce:

I am newbe, but I am learning 3d modeling techniques almost about three years.
yes! I birth in May 9th, just a few are chosen to born this day:thumbsup: hahahaha.
tremoside!:yes!, I notice the sharp edges of the hands, maybe will apply a relax modifier in the inner side, but I will wait for texturing too, maybe use that like a tendons or something.
Lemog!: you all right!, the lamp is newly installed
:hmm:, when I modeled all the geometry, will punish the machine and the bad guy, (remember that the charming old man, IS A DEAD ROAD PRISONER!!! hahahaha)
again, thank for the support, really is a good start to my.

Great entry man, I really like it. Very detailed.
I have a comment about the shoulder though. It seems as though it is sitting too low or too far back perhaps? Or perhaps it is that tendon connecting to his neck is too large? Not sure...
Anyway, it is very cool work =)

Very interresting, you have made the same kind of consept as me. A full grown man, binded into a oldstyle machinery. But I must admit that you have done a great job, your character have alot of exspression, and carry a lot of story. Its nice that you can see the machinery under his skin. I look forward to see more.

eso seria...y despues me dejai jugar con el tarro Boxx :buttrock:

So did you unwrap the guy's UVW or did the "render to texture" did it on his own, and you just painted over it the skin bruises?
And how are you going to use the z-depth render for post FX focus?
I really like how it comes at the end, although I think that the background should be more contrast and less bright.
