Is there an alternative way to simulate an area light type so that the rendering time drop like about 50-75%?
Right now i have a scene with 14 rooms and 1-2 windows in each room
The lights are a daylight system with IES sun and IES sky
Also at the window i have an area light type from wich i found that gives the best results...
I use radiosity as GI solution. The radisosity is calculated fairly fast 12minutes but when it comes to rendering the area light is a killer
like 4-5hours(the regather light at radiosity settings are 200rays and 5 filter)
Do you know what i can use at the window so i can improve the rendering time instead of the area type...or a way to improve the setting for that type of light?

I wish to use one light and not 3-4(instead of 1 area light) as the scene construction doesn`t alows me place lights around the room(there are more rooms, etc)

I understand that vray, mental ray, brazil etc have way better rendering times but unfortunately i want to use the RENDER TO TEXTURE option in max something that the other rendering programs don`t have bakeing tools...(the vray bake tool is not good)

So the question is..what would you use instead of an arealight at the window but to give results as good as that with much less rendering time?

hmm I think you better use fake shadows .I have no idead about the radiosity solution like wat will be the output when u will render it but there is simple technique that u use that is to

TO put ur light in the direction of the main source light like sun and give it a negative value of the main key light lets say
ur main key lite value is 5 then ushould give that light a value of
-5 so that u can achieve that shadow effect

remember one thing that an Omni light or or point lite need more time to render reason is that it cover 3 dimensions at a time but a spotlite needs less time to render as it is cocern in one demision I m mean in term of dipersal not the 3d world space I think might this will help u out some how. thanks bye.
