I love your style, and your brush talent! Don't you think that the device should be a bit lower? It is now emerging from the womb. Anyway, I hope you find a richer concept...

I think hdri has a valid point...and I just have to say this is a hilarious concept. Okay....and that Freud would be disappointed at how blunt?? this is? Lol

I like your use of shading and You could do some great things with perspective and scenery with this.

don't mean to sound too nasty , but this
one .. you could add a swinging baseball bat behind it :)

flyingP
04-20-2004, 12:07 PM
Hmmm.... just my own opinion but I actually preferred the first pose, just feel it conveyed the concept better.

vincentvv
04-20-2004, 12:45 PM
Hmmm dammit.... i felt like the last one had a small touch of Enki Bilal( one of my favorits)...maybe ill try a third one, i growed a bit tired of the first pose...
How many days yet?
:surprised

One really should get started on some background...

But thx guys for replys...almost better then chances of actually wining some of that stuf- is the participation in theese forums..all that talent sharing thoughs about their works...me like..:)
...but ok, that wacom thingie....and those gnomon dvd:drool: (Ya dream on Frede)

Shinwa
04-20-2004, 05:55 PM
I hope this helps!!

A - metal, metall will always have a white point... as it will always have a black point.... Granted, not exactly depending on what you choose to do with it, for instance rust or mold ;}. But very lights and very darks side by side are how it will work. Check out your pots and pans in different lighting. That or a doorknob, or silverwear or something.

B- I think the reason -I- am drawn to the first pose is the ammount of contrast you have in that one comparatively. The second one is more dulled down.

C- just a flight of fancy...but have you considered a gun showdown between him, another man, with a woman in between or standing by?? hehe

GOOD WORK!!! I can't wait to see what you do!:bounce: :bounce:

EmpY
04-20-2004, 09:20 PM
Hmm, yes, I'm with them.
If you posted the second as first I think I would not
be drawn to it with the same impressions.
Just my thoughts, no harm done :) and it is up to you.

..new pose..and now with more colors and some testingbackground..
His face is now more dum/evil then before...Actually i had some small mechanic fairys ind mind, maybe working on creatures mechanic parts, but im not sure theyll match this face..
..Probably ill do another face makeover..

The colors are madewith different color layers smashed together, and then i have used a erasertool, bringing out the colors beneath...
Layers can be good, i think guys like Rembrandt actually worked with simular technic. Lots of small layers with very litle opacity...

And thx alot for ideas and critiq.

it's not the face , it's how the face fits the pic .

like now it looks like the dude in the pic is like insanely
happy about having crafted that thing into its midsection

i dunno ...that's one weird pic u got there , hehe

Ya that he is...but im abit worried though...what use it will have placed on this guy?
maybe one should paint a pink heart at the gun, and give him a tatoo saying MOM?
..or mayb e that would just make the thing more weird..hmmm

Shinwa

I would skip the wall...unless you can show depth over it....
I think an ugly face would be a great contrast to fearies - Depending on how you paint them...

I think this technique works well for you...AND...I like the ideas of paintings on his "machinery" just because it reminds me of the world wars and the paintings on the jets and naming of them...

;} It is an amusing play on that.

The wall however is done well so far ;} and this one is looking good.:applause:

Hey, Frederik: I do love your technique and your style. Your pics are some of the best I've seen in the Challenge. But I dare to suggest just two things, that, IMO, could help to reach a winning pic:
First: the lack of detail on the legs doesn't help the comp, becouse at first sight you unconsciosly try to find them, and you may mistake the mech device with a sort of leg.
Second: I would try to work on the dropped shadow on the wall, so it doesn't look so flat; I mean, further objects drop bigger and softer shadows.
Go ahead with the pic, it is great!

I love the style of the work, for your first wip to you most recent its great to see your development, its almost as though your characters biological parts are corroding away and the metal is what remains. Very cool indeed, i look forward to more.

Have you got anything in mind for the inclusion of a detailed background or is the character and his body your primary focus?

HI Vince !:wavey:

Always a lot of soul. I can just repeat myself....I likelove the way you paint/draw the fleshh, very organic and "living" with balance btw specularity & contrast, as the balance btw blur & ( f......^§$!!!!! what's the term in englishhhhhhhhhhhhhhh) anyway I think tou understand me. Same comment for the machine pieces...:bounce: :applause:

You're a source of inspiration guy, really. Very personnal and by the way...unique, 'hope you to win.:p

Oh sketch fiend: sorry only looked at the bottom:)
Background is killing me because of the difficulty of balancing pic off....background can sort of makes char disapear....even shadows on a wall makes difficulty allready....
BUT was thinking on woman EITHER been shooted up...with wires and grids out of holes OR woman repairing and stuff on guys gun:)

Yep its not always that "more" is better

flyingP
05-19-2004, 06:36 PM
exactly, so don't feel to pressured with the background, at least not to the point that the character suffers, "personally" I have found solutions you have done so far to be adequate.......just go with what you feel Frederik, it's bound to kick ass

JamesMK
05-20-2004, 12:42 PM
Well... whaa? Damn, man... Everything you submit just makes me so totally blown away... Spot on, full coolness, great and beyond... Not to mention that those things you mentioned about cropping and stuff... it works... I've started playing with some 2D too... I suck, but those things you said actually works....

Get kicking! Finish the damn thing. Doesn't matter which pose or character you go with, because it's going to be a bloody masterpiece no matter what.

That is the official truth.

I've sadi this before (pre-hackers)...but I love your painting style...

And i find the whole idea of this big gun jutting out where most men have a penis kinda funny.

I find the thing on his back kinda confusing though. It looks like his other arm twisted around his back (because his head is jutted uncomfortably forawrd and you can't see the other arm).

The technique and style is spot on though...

I dont mind the new positioning of things but it definately leaves a lot of empty space... Are you still going to have the woman mechanic fixing his MANHOOD!!

The pose with his back turned isnt as effective but still awesome, but when i saw it it made me laugh becuse it makes it look as though he is playing with himself in a corner somewhere...LOL:surprised  hehehe

But definately keep the first pose, it looked awesome the first time through, and i would definately like to see a female mechanic fixing him as you previously mentioned. I think it would complete the space on your canvas better. But keep your detailed simplicity, its what makes your style work.

Your definately one of my faves, keep it going.

I love it! It's like a couple of confused groin-gun zombies just woke up, and they are aimlessly walking around trying to understand what they are supposed to be doing with those machines.... An interesting depth added as well.

ill really thinking about ur ideas about filling out canvas..sketch, trouble with the woman is...she have to be very small somehow, not drawing attention away from main char and towards the woman...Have tried the woman thing out and its very difficult...

goli...of course i will mary you...but first we have to find the million$ for that plastik surgery, there will turn u into Pamela Anderson.
BTW...about ur skills??

It is so....what the term in english .....efficient ? effective...You need only few things...a certain balance between blur and .(grrr).you know what .. I happy you unfocused from head..i think it's better and so mor stronger like that, more mysterious...the fact that there is no identity (no clear face, with eyes etc) force to go deeply in the picture and his incredible mood..
This is absolutely great..and composition is perfect.
Btw, the back light ......i like it, and the little fog too........ this two factors ..to give (if necessary) an additionnal dimension.

Congratulations, from jupiter...My god it's full of talent....here.

Have a good week-end with your kids !

Best regards.

Coolness as usual... I wouldn't say he is less expressive, it's just another kind of expression.

In fact, the overall expressivity in your stuff here is a great inspiration to me - and I'm not just saying that.... I really wish this kind of wicked wildness could be translated to 3D somehow, but alas, it is a rare thing....

Keep painting, some days left to go :bounce:

I just have to express how much I admire the style of your work too. I have honestly never seen anything like it before I saw your work on tegnebordet.dk. I showed this pict to my brother the other day, and he said 'wow, that's a really weird photograph' I actually had to explain to him that it was indeed a painting - now if that ain't a great compliment to your sense of light and proportions, I don't know what is. Eventhough the characters are fantastic and different to ordinary human anatomy, it still looks photrealistic!! And I absolutely love that!!
