Look outside, what do you see?
Cars driving by, people walking and doing there thing, Birds flying over.
And there it is, from around the corner you see it in the corner of your eyes..
Some boy on his skateboarding racing by , its like he made the street himself,
Knowing every bump, and curb.
I think he’s around 14/ 15 years old.
Baggy pants, nice shirt to go with it, knee pads under it.
When he speeds by a lady with her shopping bags, he picks something
To drink out of it.
So much for the nice skater ideal…. But lets go on, more than 200 hundred years from now
The year 2225 :
How would it be than.. will there still be aggressive sports like skateboarding
And skating? And if there are , how would it look like.
2225 , if we look at how we are doing now, I don’t think we will be living as well
as we do now. The technologie has grown enormously, everything has been invented to just
protect ourselves (AHUM!)
The army is powered by cyborg like super soldiers, humans with deadly weapons implemented in there bodys .
The cars are flying through the citys, citys that consist of some really enormous buildings
Of steel like metal who reach beyond the clouds .
How higher you go, how better you live, up there is the clean air, the beautiful new architecture… but not for the poor people, they live in the citys below.
Covered with smog living in old houses.
Everyone is influenced by technologie ,also the poor people, who are just fixated with idea to live forever, and one day get out of the suburb’s. Living in the city above , going to that heaven.
The skater boy:
He also lives in the city below, he wasn’t one of the fortunate.
Every day he roams the streets, and even gets up to the city above, with his hooverboard.
With his skating he gets rid of all his frustrations, He jumps over little buildings doing all
The tricks he mastered.
Specially for the skating , he doesn’t have kneepads that we know now.
He gave himself, robotic under legs and under arms.
The legs have big titanium kneecaps, that are very effective as knee pads.
Also the elbows are constructed in the same way.
These parts give him enormous strength. And the ability to make big jumps
And absorb the huge impacts.
He is a real X-treme boarding being!!
My drawing concept wont be that great, not much of a drawer
these days:rolleyes:

I really like the idea, i''m very surprised how your going to visualize it/what kind if ambience n stuff!!
keep it up!!

here is an ugly sketch , of his proportions
still to do:
design/develop:
- buckle for pants
- robotic parts
- hooverboard
- pants
- accessories

her is my first wip of the boy..
still have to tweak lots, im not quit satisfied yet.
have to re attach the ears.. but that will all get oke;)
Cant wait , to start with the robotic parts on him:D

Looking good can't wait to see more! I would be careful using adult reference for the body of a boy. They would have different proportions
ivo D
03-23-2004, 08:39 PM
yea, thats true, but if its looks weird in the end, i will scale it up or down.
in 2225, people are more perfect , only thing he does is skating ,so he has some muscles as you can see.. love to overdo it a little hehe..
the legs will be big power boosters to, have to design them still , but they are going to be wicked allright ;)
im now doing the back of the torso, when i have that done ill post another wip;)

03-24-2004, 08:17 PM
it sucks, when school takes so much time.. but dont want to wait to long with updating and let you all know where im at..
so this is what i got now,, maybe ill finish the whole upper body tonight. than i can start with making some sketches for the robotic arms..
had a try in school today , when i was bored, but damn its hard to come up with something cool ,what aint done allready 99999 times.. but ill find it somewhere.. have to shake my brain a little next week or maybe this weekend, so i can come up with something cool..
but still enough to do, upper arms will be human, and top legs..
i will make a sort of plug in his back to, there he will be filled with medical fluids once a week or so.
the fluids will make his body work better with the robotic limbs, for his nerve system etc.. so the plug will be on his back, or the back of his neck.
but than i think F** to much matrix like, so maybe ill put it somewhere else.. i hate it when things will make your stuff put in a box of matrix style, mech style etc.. blaarg hehehe
well here is the pic, enough blabla for today..
feadback is very much welcome!!http://picserver.student.utwente.nl/view_image.php/C9M602O2897V/picserver.jpeg

Really cool conection of the head with the hole thing! I like already!
The ears look a little off but maybe is the viewpoint that shows them this way!
Keep us posted!
ivo D
03-24-2004, 08:34 PM
yea, you are right, the ears aint looking right from the back.. its because of the back of his head, behind the ears , the head gets to small. have to make it wider, so the ear will seem close to the head from the back.
hope i can post another wip tonight, but im kindah tierd already pff. .bllaargf:scream:
JamesMK
03-24-2004, 10:31 PM
I see you keep churning out a clean mesh... very impressive. You're a die-hard poly-by-poly guy apparently!
I agree about the ears (or the width of his upper neck... whatever) but I see you're on top of it.
I can see there's a problem with the plugs... where, oh, where should they go to avoid any previously seen solution? :D Fingers crossed that you come up with something!

For a better balance you could put a kind to him of interface gyroscopic in the back base of his cranium :)
Very Good modeling skill :buttrock:

huh ,what do you mean.. aah what ? interface in the back of his head?
** im planning to make a thing where he can plug a cable or injection thing in, so he can inject fluids in his body, that will make his body function better with the mechanical parts hes going to have (under legs and arms).
the attach cap where he can be injected will probably come on his chest, where is heart is, to get the fluid to go straight into the bloodstream, and stimulate the heart etc.
i will make some sketches for the cap when i get home after school today;)
still 8 hours of school to go :surprised
ivo D
03-25-2004, 05:44 PM
couldnt really wait so while i was at school i did some really bad sketches.
*lower legs*:
only the lower legs will be robotic, dont know what i want yet.. really difficult never made something robotic.
it will have big knee caps for sure, and the roud thing on the side, its like a sort of turbine, that will start spinning when movement in the leg occurs, and it will light up in blue.
how harder it turn how more presure can be set with the legs, so this will give the legs more and more power, just by force.
thats why its only the lower leg to, that makes the biggest arc of swing, and it will catch up all the huge jumps.
*cap*":
this cap will be probably located on the chest, where the heart is.
here will be fluid injected every day, this will make the body adapt bettert to the robotic limbs. this is at the heart so it can stimulate the heart to in an instant, and flow through there to every part of the body, to make evrything work better.
the feet wont be anything close to what i made here, i want to aim for sort of boot / skate like shoe, but than mechanical, with magnettic fields on the bottom, so it will stick to the board, but will also be released when needed for tricks, this is where the injection fluid is essential, for an instant reaction between body and machinery.. , yea yea.. pff what a fantasy stuff huh :Dhttp://picserver.student.utwente.nl/view_image.php/598IZ4ELB7TB/picserver.jpeg

pfff finally got the torso done, i will tweak it some more as i go allong..
but as with many things after a while ive played enough with it and want to move on..
didnt have time to do the cap on his chest anymore.. have to go to the pub hehe..
i have a flaw in the back do.. but that a minor thing, will make it right, but wont even see it.. close will come over it all..
i just model this whole torso for practise.
feadback much apreciated!:bounce: and idears  etc

and for all you wire lovers, a wire to :D
i love wires myself.. so have to post this,, kindah proud of it hehe

pff it was to much funn in the pub, woke up to late, be'll late for school :S
but ow well lets post than huh...
Rhezz: i use 3dsmax , not that it matters, for the moddeling, but its max:D
hope ill have some time left tonight to model some. thx for your comment, you are all to kind:blush:
THere is a flaw in the back have to adjust that, forgot to define the middle, all the lines are just still horizontal :P
Rhezz
03-26-2004, 07:13 AM
ok cool so Im on the right track with my program :)
well Lightwave and Maya are great as well Im sure but I guess Ill stick to max for this challenge since I kinda know my way around.
ivo D
03-26-2004, 10:58 AM
hhm,, i dont know how i should do the cap now, on his chest, just let it stick on there or let the skin come up, so it seams like its underneath also.. hhm, ill have to try, i have so many idears in my head.
the legs and arms will be kindah hard to, caus i want them to still to be a little human like, in the form of, they have some real feel to them about where muscle normally are.. hope its understandable what im saying, still have to figure out how to aproach that..
**so if some of you have ref picks of cool robot legs and arms plz post them here, could use them as inspiration, have to see how much detail ill put into them, i like lots of detal hehehe**
ivo D
03-27-2004, 03:45 PM
so i started with the cap for on hsi chest today.. took me some time
for the holes i first wanted to model them in but they wernt very round than.
boolean in max doesnt work to ,as many of you know.
so i figured i could best start with the holes ,and go on from there ,and that worked.
but this model took me to long for my taste, but here it is
http://picserver.student.utwente.nl/view_image.php/885B5XA9922I/picserver.jpeg
ivo D
03-27-2004, 03:47 PM
and this is how i made the holes, for some of you who got, or may get stuck on that to
http://picserver.student.utwente.nl/view_image.php/1P67M01LG92J/picserver.jpeg
you can just make a quarter of it, and copy it 3 times, and attach:D
ivo D
03-27-2004, 04:19 PM
i got a little problem, stupid really, bit here i have my plgu now, but the skin comes through it, duh.. had to think of that first hehe
what is a good solution?
i could use a mapping to make the skin there transparent so it will look oke.. modelling this thing in will be a serious pain:hmm:

i got it!!
damn i was probably sleeping, but during some dinner and blabla it came to me!
just broke the mest there, and moed the vertices to the corner duh.. ow man, i was all thinking difficult.. thanks for the crit and help.
srry he wont get any buttons.. i think that will make him to much toy like.
dont know what the use of them would be.. maybe in his leg a button or 4 , for his build in music player.. maybe ill give him headphones so:D
But now here is the chest with the plug in it, clean as can be  :bounce:

Aww thats too much
Honestly you do really cool style of work. :)
Btw here is an idea for what he can be wearing:
A hoodie (with the hood up) and large expensive microphones...and person baggy pants but they might cover up the metal bits.
ivo D
03-28-2004, 05:14 AM
what do you meen with hoody?
he will get baggy pants:D but shorts.. halfway his knees, zo his robo knees will come under from it.
and a sleaveless sweater, with a , think hoody, how you call it lol
but now im off to bed, just came back from my weekend job ,lol, hope ill have some modelling tim tomorrow;)
1st angel.. thnx for the support!:D love your work to.. We will keep rockin!:buttrock:

een "hoodie" is typische skater mode, maar het zou wel leuk zijn als de koptelefoonen worden naast de oren ingebouwd. Ik ben zeker benieuwd...
Leuk concept en achtergrond verhaal. Veel Succes!
JamesMK
03-28-2004, 05:32 PM
Making progress I see! Nice clean mech details so far.
I'm not sure if it's because of the lights or the perpective, but the ribcage looks a little bit flat right now - maybe it needs some more rounded volume... but then again, it could be something else.
Spanking good modeling (still, yeah, no surprises apparently :D )
ivo D
03-28-2004, 07:10 PM
ow just made a post, but got an error.. and gone was my text grrr.
so this one will be quick and dirty.
james: yep looks flat.. its because of the falloff in the wax shader. havent adjusted much of the standard shader.
but this wont be used for final or anything near it, just liked this more than purely grey.
update:"now the major update is taking some time : thats because im designing the leg, and havelike 15 different desigfns here, but aint satisfied yet.
james i really wish i could make such legs you made , but that wont suit my character in what i have in mind, bummer
:hmm:
but ill have it in the comming week, i have to caus my fingers are itching allready, want to model some again, but i wont start till i have something good, i know myself, i will go nuts when im halfway with it, and than dont like it and have to start over
GOOD PLANNING IS HALF THE WORK as they say..
but ill keep you posted, ill post all my sketches soon to, will make a nice poster full of stuff lol
JamesMK
03-28-2004, 07:15 PM
Untweaked wax falloff eh? I figured it had to be something else than the modeling anyway :buttrock:
Figures.
Legs, yeah... You can at least have some wicked knee protection devices, no?
Looking forward to that poster full of sketches.
Just like in '2001' you know - "My God! It's full of sketches!"

03-31-2004, 02:14 PM
He Ivo I c you are making nice progress.
Clean moddeling, I'm jelous:drool:
Can't wait to c the leggs with discman in it?
Then the face I agree that there is some flatness that has nothing to do with materials or faloff.
Can't put my finger on it tough.
Anyways rock onn!
ivo D
03-31-2004, 04:04 PM
yea i the head i know, i modelled that head way to fast, and my topology is correct but i stretched it a little ,result is that i have very little polygons at the cheek, and i cant shape them right, really been on it for an hour, but it doesnt get much better, so at the end ill adjust that, or do some stuff over again.
now i want to focus on the legs and stuff, have lots of sketches aint satisfied yet, im not good at mechanical stuff(design wise)
so ill just have a go at it tonight.
but so maybe ill remoddel the head sometime, think i can find some free spare hours at the end.
if all goes right ill have lots of time when the moddelling is done, for texturing, ligting tweakin and maybe scene building.. i hope so that is:thumbsup:

03-31-2004, 05:19 PM
If you are using Max just use edit poly> insert some vertices in edge mode> then go to vertex mode and connect the ones you want.
You are right though sometimes the best thing is to start over.
ivo D
03-31-2004, 06:16 PM
yea i could cut in some.. but i maybe im just gonna do it over.. but thats what i do at the end than.. or ill cut insome, yes i could do that, irritating thing is that may not get me what i want, and it could be more frustrating than just start over, its a simple head ,so maybe maybe lol :D
Proficuus
04-01-2004, 05:29 AM
Well, don't cut it. That is too unpredictable for the detail you want. if you insert vertex in edge mode you can put them exactly where you want and then "connect the dots".

started with the leg, some part of the knee, with the turbine in it, but i dont like this turbine , have to think of something else in terms of a turine, shape will stay but i dont like the blades in it, kindah crap..
havent scanned my sketches yet, hell of a job to do grr..
loading the picture can be slow, picserver is having some problem. just refresh , it will show up eventually :D
if someone has idears let me know, i just started in 3d withy this shape.. to have a better look at it

Very cool concept. I love your model so far, very clean. On the turbine I would make more blades and set the center cone further back in the housing.
D.
JamesMK
04-01-2004, 08:36 PM
On the turbine, I second dlofgreen's suggestion, and you should perhaps bevel those edges a little bit to get rid of some sharpness.

keep it up mate

Great modelling so far.
I dont like the turbine as a whole, maybe when its attached to the body but atm its kind of crappy :)
sorry for sounding so harsh but I think you should redo the turbine and give it a more of a futuristic look...not too futuristic but not like something from the 60s.
ivo D
05-04-2004, 11:45 AM
aah yea about the tubrines,, allready thrown that away some time ago, made lots of sketches.. was planning to scan them all and put them up here.. but i had a computer crash, i was one of the lucky bird to have a new virus.. so no scanner could pick it up, or block it.. just everything is/was gone, lucky enough i mailed my model to myself.. so its on a few mail acounts of mine;)
now im at 3d festival, when i am back i will continue with my model, bvery fast , first ill have to reinstall my whole system do.. im afraid:S
