Hello everyone!

My first post. WOW. I was on vacation last week. One week without the www, it´s amazing what someone miss in that short time. I´m fascinated by all the posts by now. It will take my a day to look at all your works.

Good Luck to everyone!!

Now it´s on me. Well, as you can see at my user name, I´m in insects. So it´s obvious to me, to combine the Machineflesh topic with the world of entomology. These little beasts are machines anyway.

So here my first quick thumbnails to show in which direction I´m aiming at.

On the title: Stay tuned for my story. It´s got to do a lot with religion, mystic, zealotry, mass-destruction and totalitarianism.

More is coming the next days.

Herzlich wilkommen zur Challenge!!!!

Your story sounds very interresting and loaded with details.
I also like your initial sketches.
Keep an eye on this one...

Interesting concept.
The crit i would submit is that i think
the design you have chosen with
antenna like yourz is too much
stereotyped, i think in the insect world
there are more inspirations like flexible
antenna of the ants for example.

By the way, welcome to the contest !
Keep it up!
:)

really like your first sketches. It seems like there are so many things that could be taken form the drawings.

It looks like the regular human muscles hve been reformed around the more insect like skeleton. Nice drawing as well very clear and precise.

Can't wait to see more.

Tommy Lee: Vielen Dank für Deinen Post!! Thank you! I love your style. Amazing! Grüsse aus München!

harnelbe: Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. Your absolutely right about the antennas. There are many other variations. Thank you.

olidale: Thank you very much. Yeah. There are more muscles to come, and even more insect like parts.

More pix later. And I´m working on the story. Gotta translate into English.

Here two head sketches. I usually start with the head. This helps me to define the character and it´s main figure. The head is usually the first part of the body of any creature, either human or animal, we´re looking first at.

I´m not sure about the design. But there is more to come.

The story is on it´s way.

The plague is spreading!

The first sketches reminded me too much the Appleseed cyborg. (Briareos If I remember)

This one is far more interesting !

Good luck to you ! :bounce:

Many thanks to all of you!!

Sorry for the late response, but I´m very bussy.

More to come on WE.

@DB5BOND Many thanks. And it´s going to get more wicked.

@Deadly Force You´re absolutely right about Appleseed. I´ve got to avoid any Manga style. Not because I don´t like ´em ( I love Manga) but I don´t wanna copy any style if possible.

@Tommy Lee Vielen Dank! Thank you very much!

@Sketch23 Get prepared for more muscles. Mhhhh.. muscles!

@Protoz Thank you. I haven´t made a decision yet.

@MustardWash Thank you very much. Stay tuned.

@harnelbe Yeah, that´s the right description!

@tolin Many thanks. Body is coming soon. Be prepared for more creepiness.

@SUSHIFX Many thanks. I won´t disappoint you. Stay tuned.

Now I´ve done the first sketch of the body, or what it will look like. As I said before, the Insect characteristic is the major idea of my Machineflesh character.

So I´ve studied the anatomy of a Locust and it´s main visual appearance. It´s obvious, that the legs of this jumpers are more than significant. That´s why I decided, my Creature is going to be some sort of a "I jump over a half a mile" type.

A really efficient anatomically design, to let the device reach every point in the far or near distance in a very short time and with a minimum expenditure of energy.

The guy will get wings too, to let him glide after jumping and let him increase his radius of action.

I´m not sure by now, how much of the machine and how much of the musculature parts I will use. I think I´ve got to get the right balance in this case.

So far by now. Please gimme c+c.

Thank you very much.

wow i love your sketches, very clean and easy to read, the only litthe thing is im not sure with the lenght of the legs. not that i dont like it, i know you'r trying to be original and not add cliche legs, maybe some kind of secondary thorax that swings forward, maybe in crazy. anyway not trying to bag.

Norberg
04-05-2004, 03:32 PM
You really got something there.
what is really creapy with insects is their jaws and mouthparts, especially when they just grab on to another insect and just starts chewing.
I´d like to see something like that but from what i´ve seen of your sketches the finnished image will be awesome anyway.

Deadlyforce
04-05-2004, 06:01 PM
Very good beginning !

As a detail, maybe the thorax and head parts should be more like a "S" shape on the side view.

I agree with Tolin about the legs. But I love the claws design.

Oh God! I know It´s been a while. Now I gotta hurry. But a lot of stress, a crashed PC, a new graphic controller and a fresh system later, I will bring it on.

Another head study. I just wanna show how the main weapon of the "purification device" is working. It´s a kind of plasma gun, hidden behind a moveable mouth part, which will be kindled by little plasma beams on the tip of the also moveable mandibles.

Refined body = Soon!!

And I also owe you the story.

I start to shake.

Panik!

Maaan, there are too many entries. Sadly, this is the first time I get to see your piece.
Any projects for the bg? I think a chaos of wires on ground instead of grass would go pretty good.
Thumbs up mate, you're doing great!
Hurry! Hurry!! Only 2 days left, can't wait to see the final coloring!

I got to explain the main background story of my character now. I know I should have done this at the beginning but there are so many things in my head I just got to combine and let go hand in hand. Confused mind this days. And I gotta translate into English. Hope It´s not that bad.

Here a few fast drawn skribbles of my final image or what it will look like.

I decided to take the last one in the right corner.

It shows the moment where a swarm of locusts reaches the city. In the foreground is allready one which turns his head around to face the viewer.

Now the line art. No sleep tonight. Where´s my coffee?

Locusta

Good luck to everyone of you. It was really great to do this challenge. Very, very impressive talents around. And you all are very kind. Someone can learn a lot here. I hope there will be another challenge in the future.
