View Full Version : Looking for ideas...
cornbreadandham 03-21-2004, 11:50 PM Hello, I'm doing a scene which requires an explosion in a cornfield. I'm trying to come up with ways to deform the stalks of corn away from the blast center. I was considering morphs, but it seems like there should be an easier way. I was also just playing around with Effectors without verygood results...any ideas would be greatly appreciated..Thanks alot!

Depending on how close you need to get to the corn you could use Sasquatch and use Sas's own wind blower - that would be stupidly easy to set up and look very naturalistic, but only for a wide shot.

If you made a "stalk_bent" morph and bent it down the -Z axis, you could target each corn stalk to a null at the center of the explosion. I think it would be pretty easy to write an expression to set the morph value to be relative to the distance to the null.

You dont need any expressions. You make a single corn stalk and then make a bent morph. Clone it around so the morphed position always faces the center of the blast.
Use the normal displacement plugin in layout which will allow you to activate the morph using a gradient based on distance to the object.

That's what I thought, too. I tried working up an example scene, but when I cloned an object with normal displacement on, it didn't update the new object's distance to object--it just used the cloned version. So basically I just had a long row that looked the exact same.
