I am just getting started with lightwave and have decided to do a project with some wood. I am looking for ideas and or textures/tutorials on how to make bark from a tree, leaves, and vines.

The bark, leaves, and vines need to be made so they are moveable (in case I decide later to animate the figure).

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated for a total noobie. :)

After some playing around in Photoshop I made these next 2 trial textures. I want to add leaves and bark to a face I am making. The only concern I have is if I animate the face that the textures would crinkle and give a bad image. I am making the face with raised areas so the bark has more depth throughtout the face. The leaves and vines will be used in replacement of the hair on the face (eyelashes, hair, eyebrows etc...)

I would like to simulate the bark and vines going under the still human portion of the skin but am still trieing to think of a way to simulate this without the bark looking flat at different angles :(

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

the second one looks more bark like. The first one looks like mud cracking. Looks cool though

cracked tree bark usually splits up into individual pieces with very well defined grooves in between. what you could do is merge the 2 pictures together to produce individual splits that are less blockish, it's usually rectangular in shape.

as mentioned, the 1st one looks like mud. the 2nd, looks like chocolate whip cream.

There are some good bark textures to use as reference from Newtek's free texture samples.
