In these difficult times, a mad scientist has created the abominable creature. He created a gigantic genetically and mechanically modified mole to destroy the world. The mole’s path of destruction is unstoppable as it smashes everything from underground.
So beware!

In the year 2010, the mankind is threatened by a new problem: fertility!
The excess of TV and junk food has reduced the fecundity of humans. Therefore some biomedical companies have developed new nanotechnology to improve the chance of pregnancy. This nanotechnology allows reinforcing and improving spermatozoids and ovule through genetics and mechanics modifications. The spermatozoids are faster, stronger and remotely controlled by the ovules, which has been enhanced with GPS (to let the spermatozoids know its position) and better visual signs for entry.
This is another though for the challenge. I might develop this one for the 2D challenge.

I started with the head of my mole. It took me quiyt some time, as I tried the subdivision modelling for the first time. I am not quit finish with it. I want to get a rounder head.

Here are some comment of what I did during the weekend.
I redifend my mole with new sketches and started the modeling.
Unfortunatly I am a beginner and I never used subdivision modeling. So this is a double challenge for me. I am use to model with nurbs but as I a just started learning maya I decided to use sub div modeling and I am going to build my mole body with polygon modeling.
Concerning the modeling of the haed, I am quit happy with reasult but I still nedd to work on it until I get the result I want, which is a rounder head.
I think the body will be straigh forward as it is wuit simple and round.
Pleas fill free to comment/critic as I really need feedback. At the end you are the people who are going to vote!!
Thanks

No critics???
This can't be perfect already?? :curious:
I can't believe noone's commented! great work. Just so you know, someones already doing the enhanced sperm, but it looks like you're not doing it anyway. Great modelling progress. all be following this thread.

Who is doing the idea of the sperm?
Iwas thinking of doing this one in the 2D contest and I checked that no one submitted the idea before I did...

I dig the mole, man!
One comment on the concept- I would much rather see this mole as a normal size creature enhanced mechanically and used to find treasure, mines or people under ruins in case of disaster. Maybe it would become more interesting- the giant destroyer scenario is kind of old- you know, since Godzilla came around:)

Héhé... I like a lot the mole idea...
I hope sincerely that your modeling will be as funny as your drawing.
That will be a wip very interesting to follow, good work :bounce:

tedjel: thanks for the comments. I choose to go for a big scene of destruction. I choose this because the joke with Mole et deMOLEition. So that was the reason of my theme. I also want to work around the result of a huge creature in a city so I can play with the camera and camera angle.
Lemog: thanks. I also hope to get my modeling as funny as the drawings. I want to try to get a cartoonish results. I have lot of ideas in mind of what I can do but I think I already pick the final feeling of my concept. But it is secret for now.

Looks good, it's refreshing to see a take like this on the Machineflesh challenge. Can't wait to see what bio-mechanical goodness goes on (I assume alot of constuction-like stuff? Hazard stripes abound!)

Hi everyone,
I haven't been working for a while (lot of things happening in my life at the same time) But I manage to work a lit bit and I will work even more from now on.
So here is my mole with foot and the begining of an arm. I am still not sure what I will do for the hands.
I will start soon texturing it ( as soon as I learn a little bit more about it) and i should soon start working on the environment.

I decide to rig only the upper body of my mole as the lower part will be hidden.
The skeleton is fairly basic and used paint skin weight to control the deformation.

The texturing should come very quickly once I finished the building.

For me... the mole has a very good design... and the final frame is perfect... like a mega hollywood product no ? :D
Then guy... you mus do finish the rest... textures, lighting, rendering... remains you only 9 days... it's short but don't stop now... you've all elements to do something good...
Keep it up dude :D

I am using Mental Ray Final Gathering for the lighting of the scene. The light come from the surounding sphere.
I am not sure if I will keep this for the final image as it takes too much time to render. I also try with a sphere of spot lights. I will a to compare the results.

This is the first render of the scene. Everything is in place. There are not texture yet ( a part from the sky) and I am missing a light for the sun. But I am pretty happy witht the result.
Please comments as I sure need to improve.

Sorry my friend... but I think there's a problem with the notifications... It's the first I receive for more than 10 days.
I always like the originality of the picture. And it's very funny.
One crit anyway... some details of environment are a bit coarse, like building textures... more depth of field or motionblur would have permit you to dissimulate these small details.
I like much the leaning framing...
But well, overall your scene is very simpathic thanks to this very funny mole.
Bravo Mirage_fr :applause:

Merci lemog
Unfortunetly I didn't have the time of adding these type of details. I use the texture I add or could find quickly. I also rendered some depth of field but because I didn't have the time to experiement I messed it and I couldn't use it.
Well that was my first challenge and I was learning Maya at the same time...
I am thinking of taking the time to finish it.
