Beware! Is a jet butterfly!
Is a optimized butterfly, with turbines and improved wings.
But a improved butterfly requiered improved flowers! How get the butterfly the power for its new machinery?
By fortune, because the simbiotic relashionship with flowers, its have a new source of "food": Energy.
The flower get the energy from the sun (have solar's cells, it covers the petals), and the butterfly feed them with a modified "mouth".
The energy is not only for propulsion. Is a key for the biologic surviving of the butterfly, because the butterfly use them for have some beauty efects in the wings and atract the females!

Thanks ParadiseFlyBird for the reply!
By the way, awesome :applause: material your MF idea!
Now, i'm progressing with the model....
This is a first idea with the turbine:

I put a "thing" (how traslate it from spanish???) for separate the turbine from the body of the butterfly (avoid damage)
This is a try with the body:
I'm working in have a more "natural" body.

well, this is my butterfly model....has you see it's very simple, look under the wings, there are the turbines and at the edge of the wings is some line, in this line is the lighteffect tha i say before ,under the mouth is an mechanic arm....with this one the butterfly gets the energy fom the modified flower

Hola! es bueno ver a alguien cercano por aca, me gusta la idea que expones, te sugeriria poner las turbinas mas grandes o que resalten mas, pero la idea es buena. Suerte y espero ver el arte final prongo. Nos vemos ;)

ok, i used some ligths in my escene.....look to the left, there are the ligth that i used to the effect in the wings and the end of the arm. and the right lightracer to the atmosphere,in the middle is the butterfly wiht the effects.

I simply use the normal map of a monarch butterfly, then fade it playing with opacity, for do a more look of "metal" but still respecting the feel of naturity of the wings.
For the edge, I put a channel buffer and a lens effects.

I use raytracing and Max 6 scanline rendering, plus a simple effect in videopost for ilumunate the wings

The videopost was simply: I add a light effect for the edges of the wings. Also, i feature two colors: One for the female (red) and male (blue).... Remenber, the idea for the wings is not only fly but attract...

After a lot of work, I'm finish!
I'm very happy with my idea. I see how almost everybody else play with the idea of dark characters & monsters...and a lot of pictures look like a imitation of Matrix. However, is amazing the amount work, so great!
I like my idea because:
a) Is a more "realistic" scenario
b) Follow in a natural way the improvements in a animal
c) Is more about a beautiful picture, something extrange but nice coming in a good dream
d) Present a symbiotic relations butterfly-flowers. The butterfly have turbines, a improved mouth, a better wings with 2 purposes: Resist the impulse from the turbines and attract females.
e) Present how the machineflesh butterfly realy live in it world...
In my final image, the blue wings are males and the red wings are females. The wings are faded because are a special metal aleation, but a butterfly not have a heavy wings, so is almost invisible representationg how much soft are this better wings.
Is very amazing that i finish at time because i need run the rendering in a laptop (!) and twice i get out of memory in the final rendering (and i have a decent one: XP 2400&512 RAM&64 ATI) and i think that was impossible finish...but i can!!!!!
Thanks for watching and good luck!
