is there a way to modify the motion of an element with
noise conrtolled by an image?

say a perlin pattern to gain some noise in the motions otherwise straight motion from a to b.

shake seems to be what i'd want but it doesn't seem to let you limit the amount to a sensible amount.
maybe i'm using that shake modifer incorrectly.
i've added a trasnform to move the element.
and am trying to modify the xy.

exivalent in lightwave would be the noisy channel.

Yeah, shake is what you want. Just be sure to modify your max/min sliders under the modifier tab. ;) It defaults to 0 and 1, so it'll move your image center a lot. You can also animate the min/max sliders to ramp in and out of the noise offset.
