View Full Version : cutting meshes at edges

so i've been mulling over this for a while, and i have an idea for a brute force method, but i thought i'd run this by this forum to see if i'm just missing something.

i'm trying to cut a mesh based on an edge selection - the terminology gets a bit sticky here: what i want to do is, say, select two contiguous edges, and "cut" them so that i end up with four edges, which if i pull in opposite directions will reveal a hole in the mesh. not quite the same as split vertex, but rather a split edge...

my brute force idea entails using "Split Vertex" and querying edges across my selection to find continguous ones that lie in the same position and merging them. it's just a bit painstaking, and wieldy with a large selection.

any ideas?
