Hi there,
I'm wondering, is there a textbook art to editing? I've edited videos of many topics, but never really thought if there's a right and wrong way of doing it, or a more artistic way of doing it. Are there books out there to learn the art of editing? Or should i just continue to study films that i see?

Thanks,
George

Directors Rob Cohen (Fast and Furious) and Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids trilogy) offer some editing insights in their DVD commentaries.

Hi, I'm looking if anyone has this book? and what you think of it?

In the Blink of an Eye by Walter Murch (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1879505622/qid=1093137645/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/102-8092777-6553713?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)

I'm looking for some more film editing and directing books.

Thanks,
George

Hello George,
I read the Walter Murch book and found it very interesting. It's not much of a theory book, more a compilation of personal wisdom he picked up on the way along with a very interesting rundown on how editing (and editing styles) developed over time. I can definitely recommend reading that. Another one I found interesting was an old book by François Truffaut, which is basically an in-depth interview with Alfred Hitchcock about every one of his movies. He explains a lot of filming and editing tricks in there. I think the english title is just "Hitchcock". I haven't really read any other books on editing yet ...
