Here's a handfull of clips I animated for Hallmark's Dinotopia. Some clips are shaded, others are full renders, some have sound, some don't - yada yada.

Hi, and thanx!

I just did the animation in these clips. Rigging, shading, lighting and comping was all done by other people.

I worked on the project for about 6 months. It was great, Framestore (where all this was done) is a great place to work with very talented people to learn from (and get drunk with).

MDB101,
Your dinosaur looks great. I don't know much about max but it looks like your doing fine... so stick with it.

you got a gig at framestore? i've been a fan, but now you are officially my hero.

nice lip syncs.

one question: my rigs have always been built to serve me personally. i prefere fk over ik so if someone else ever handed me an ik rig i'd probably rebuild it. what issues do you run into when working with another artist's rig?

Thanks Sicean.

I generally join a project and start moving things about, most of the time not to peoples delight. On large projects however, I'm so buzzy working that there's little time for fooling around.

It's hard work to function as part of a team.
Ugh!.

Looks wicked Niels. I saw that framestore cfc are still hiring compositors (pick me! pick me!), td's & line producers for dinotopia. Is this a second series or the same one you worked on? Did they invite you back(!)?

I didn't like the mini-series, but your animation was outstanding:thumbsup:

Pretty damn amazing reel you got there :)

What software you used? ...and you know what softwares the guys who modelled it used? I know it's Maya but i would like to know for sure.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Beej,

I don't know if fs-cfc is still looking for people, but I asume so. The mini series of Dinotopia is done so I guess the work that's done now is for the tv-series.

Thoth,

We used Softimage|3d v3.9.2.1.2.34.5.something :) It's good software, but the model had so much detail that there was practicaly no feedback in the editor.
The models are scanned from mockups and then refined and cleaned. There were some people using maya and Lightwave but mostly for effects stuff.

Hope this helps.
Kay-Kay.

Hi,

I love what u have done, I was just wondering if u could give us a little background history that led u into the position u now find yourself. Thanx - I only ask as I only have a year left at Uni then comes the big jump!

P.s. Was it difficult trying 2 give dinosaurs human characteristics?

*shudders*

I hate the accent for that dinosaur:shame:

The animation was superb though.

Hiya Niels! :D

It rocks man! My stuff will follow in a few months time, when I'm done on Potter and gets some spare time for myself.. and a life!
We saw a screening of Dinotopia recently, and I actually enjoyed it much more than I thought I would! Now, I'm not THAT embarrased! ;)

Ps. Were you not going to link my site you bastard?!

Pps. Jamie says hi! ..no he doesn't really, as he isn't here right now, but I'm sure he would! ;)

Keep it up!!!

Thanx again guys.

Vfx,

Except for my Framestore adventure my career has been pretty boring - hehe. It shouldn't be too hard to find a job when you finish Uni, the demand for 'out of school talent' is high.
Good luck buddy.

Hey Stef!

I can't wait to see the whole Dinotopia thing, I've got to get my hands on a dvd sometime soon. It feels pretty good to finally finish something that actually gets aired. I hate being back at a small firm with nothing but quarells. Every morning I slap myself in the face for not accepting the HP2 gig - hehe.
