This is just one of my preliminary sketchs to get the idea out of my head. My character is goingto be some sort of mining specialist or worker this is one of the many enhancements/modifications he has this lowerleg is the result of a cave in as the design become more realized in my head and on paper i will post finalized sketchs

left arm has been replaced with a bionic arm with high powered Drill attachment the drill will be retractable so that a hand can extend for normal tasks.. thinking about making the drill part mechanical part laser so it could penetrate tough substances faster. still figuring out the switching mechanism for going betrween hand and drill. More developed sketchs are coming.

I seem to be heading in more of a "steampunk" fantasy type of character with my drawings and thoughts. I really like the Idea of him havingto shovel coal into his stomach to keep his burners going. Also thinking of making the drill separate from him/ Please give me some feed back. I know my drawing skills arn't very good but i just need to get the rough idea out. I can detail and clean up alot in modeling.

can't wait to see this modeled. a view of him with fire bellowing out of his belly will be pretty impressive. Its nice to know that one day these sketches will be fully alive and moving ( on screen that is, unless you know something I don't? )

finally starting to remember how to draw... Concept taking form still tryingto work out arm mechanism

Close to final design. Right arm will remain flesh as wel as half of the right leg.

Comments would be appreciated

im having a tough time decideing exactly how to model the arm. My experience is mostly organic poly modeling so machines are hard At the moment i am just using polys. Should i switch to nurbs and build all the hard metal part that way? any suggestions would be appreciated. I think this might be the most complicated model i have ever attempted.

looks great so far. just think of the simple structure, then when thats done add detail and other parts .

Really nice concepts, hope to see more modelling soon. I'm not very sure abt nurbs, but i think it should be easier to create mechanical objects using polies... anyway, i'm just a poly user talking.... :P well good luck!!! :buttrock:

Thanks for the comments, I think i'm going to stick to poly's I just had an idea to make the hydraulics hexagonal or octagonal just to be wierd or mor archaic looking.

does any one know how to rig pistons in maya or where i could find a good tutorial on it?

i will post some more modeling tonight i think I'm going to rough in the upper torso and head tonight.

This is about 3 1/2 hours of modeling with little to no reference in the second image it seem obvious i have to fix the proportions.. I happy with the eye thoughI have to cover up the left side of his head any way but for some reason i alway model the left side of the face and mirror..just a quirk i guess.

Once I finish modeling the base head I can add his right Eye Prosthetic and this will actually start to look like something worth while. Been awhile since i modeled any thing so im just shaking off the cobwebs and scraping of the rust on my brain. I'm Back In Black

looking good. have you thought about an oxygen aparatus? it does get pretty gritty under ground.

interesting take on the theme, looking forward to seeing the first WIPs :)

I though about the oxygen device a little but if i mad a mask for him it would cover his mouth and prevent being able to see his expressions. I think the metal wind pipe i giving him as well as other indication of internal cybernetics should cover the whole breathing undergound thing.

Like internal filters or something, maybe i should have little drawer in his throut that can be pulled out to change or clean the filter screen. ... Actually, I think that would be kick ass have to write that one down.

I will posta new pic before i go to bed tonight i built ears and should have at leas his neck modeled in rough before i sleep.
