View Full Version : beast of burden - character - Dennik
Dennik 07-06-2002, 06:39 AM Hi there
Thinking about beasts of burden, i thought of a beast that has a body type like a triceratops but it is carnivore, and agressive when it comes to defending his boss and burden from muggers along the road. I provide you my start polygon cage and a triceratops image i used (not mine) to create the general body shape. At this stage it looks more like a dino-cow but as i start adding horns and spikes and nails and muscles, i hope i will turn it into something more fearsome.

Head with the horns added few hours later. I still have to do something with the nose. It looks way too flat...

My beast with his body in its plain shape.
Since i did went so far in the first day, lets reveal what may follow: This beast belongs to the King's sorcerer. It is his favorite pet, one of the most clever animals in the kingdom. It has a great respect for his master, and it doesn't obey anyone else except him. As i already said, it is agressive when the conditions are dangerous for his master and his cargo, usually from the muggers that hide inside the dark forest along the road. Few days ago, the King's first born was brought to the world. The King's sorcerer decided to make a present to the firstborn son, a sacret stone carved with words of magic in an ancient language, ancient as the trees of the dark forest. Made especially to protect the infant from evil, untill it reaches his youth and take the throne. So the beast once again will hit the road carrying this time a present for the King's first born son....
Stay tuned as i will try to further visualise this story. I hope i'll manage to have something final untill the deadline. :-D

I mean this as a complement, but your BoB reminds me of a creature from a godzilla movie for some reason. :D

Well it looks like a dino-lizard mix isn't it?. At least it doesn't look like a dino-cow anymore! :D
I didn't do any sketches as a start, i know. I don't have any tratitional art background at all (what a pitty) but i'll continue putting new stuff on it as i imagine them during the day, and maybe at the end it will look a litle more original as a character. Thanks a lot for the comments anyway.

My beast so far.
Although its far from finished, at this point i'm open to any suggestions on how would i make it more sophisticated.
I put some shields on the side because it is it's body weak point. :D

a nice jump from the last post, looking pretty good. i would say alter the back or front feet because they look too similar. and maybe play with the wa the scales sit on the back, they look rather stuck on. great job so far i think:buttrock:

Small update...
Some changes on legs and back plating some spikes added on the tail...
Well, no need to say what i changed, i just hope you like it. Due to abuse of spikes and horns I'll call him Spikey. :D
I also wasted a litle time to render with radiocity. Oh well, this is for fun anyway.
Any comments are wellcome. So far i have the uneasy feeling that my BoB is much neglected in this contest..

A preview of what will follow...
I haven't added much detail yet. I'm going to model the sacred stone now, to see how it looks as a whole. We'll see about details after that...
:D
P.S: I know my bob sucks but please stop by and confirm it at least! Thanx.

Ok. here is a render with some quickie textures on, because it would look even worse with just basic colors. :hmm:
Thats the last update for this contest. It was an honor participating in the creation of this "monstropolis". There are so many talents in this forum, i can hardly believe i'm gona get one single vote for my BoB. It doesn't matter though. It was fun just to work on it. :p

A litle closeup to the head. I had to post it because the maximum size limit doesn't allow me to show big general view.

And last, here is an untextured version of my spikey BoB.
Time to go for vacation now.
Bye...
