View Full Version : 3D Studio Max newbie needs help ...
mcintosh184 03-17-2004, 09:42 PM This is based off a tutorial by Colin Banette I found on the web. I deviated from it a little bit, and I'm generally happy with the outcome except for the repeating oak patern in the material. I have a uvw map assign to the ovject but I dont know what to do with it. It seems like if I lower the amount the map is used, its stretched and looks somewhat crappy. Yet if I leave as is, you see the repetition. Any pointers and suggestions would be appreciated ... thank you. Please keep in mind that I'm new to this, so please try to use laymans (sp?) terms ...

Sorry, can't see what you're talking about.
If a texture is looking too stretched, it could be the UVs aren't created well enough, and they need to be massaged/edited to remove distortion. This is a good all-around UV tutorial for 3ds max...

If a texture is too blurry, you may need to recreate the bitmap at a higher resolution.
If the tiling is too obvious, you may need to fix the bitmap. This tutorial is a good one...

Hope that helps.

Its here ... http://www.deviantart.com/view/5878526/
Regardless, thanks for the links ... if there is anything more to add after you've actually seen it, please add ... thank you very much for the help.

Put a checkerboard on your model, to see where the UVs stretch, then fix the UVs.
Then I would suggest using a larger wood texture, so you don't get the repeating grain on all three drawers.
Looks good so far, keep it up!
