I'm just here to have some fun, so may the pleasure be with us ;)
03-20-2004, 10:36 PM
Just a little concept, made on a postit. My goal is to create some fantasy ogre, or troll, transformed into a machine for a sci-fi environment or into a sofisticated warmachine for fantasy battles. Some necromancians would have create the equipment.
Just an idea. Sorry for bad quality.
03-20-2004, 10:44 PM

Good luck to you all guys ! have fun ! :buttrock:
03-22-2004, 11:20 AM
Another idea i had, is to create a troll machine, allowing a fantastic troll juice, goblins like to produce :)
This machine is working like kinda alambic, distillating organic waste from troll... The result is kinda disturbing for us human, but so well appreciated by orcs, goblins, and troll themselves !!
 that troll juice is a nice idea! I like!
03-22-2004, 11:30 AM
Great to see you JS ! :wavey: Hmm....now I wonder what software you will be using eh? :p
03-22-2004, 02:23 PM

Nifty model! I quite like the trolljuice idea...
03-23-2004, 04:41 PM
Oh...good...such a nice workflow. Keep rocking budy!:buttrock:
Man, Z-Brush never ceases to amaze me. Everytime I see new work in Z-Brush, it just blows my mind.

Allez zou, envoie moi ma copie, je peux plus attendre !
Très sympa au passage !
03-23-2004, 06:22 PM
WOAW, js rolhion you're a "rocket-speeder creator"
Very curious making for beginning modeling.
I start 3d modeling since a little year and i never saw that.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what's the name of that making?
  :applause:
03-23-2004, 07:39 PM
Thanks to all :)
I use Zbrush 2 for modeling, texturing, rendering.
03-23-2004, 08:02 PM
I like the concepts, and I must say being slightly new to CG Talk I am a bit intimidated by the fact everyone is welcoming you back. (GULP!) Can't wait to see more.
03-23-2004, 09:45 PM
No, no that's impossible!
C'est hallucinant, tout simplement hallucinant !
Your modeling is astounding! I'm eager to see that mixed up with crazy technology. Please keep posting many WIP as you already did, that really, really interresting!
Hyper bravo !!! :applause:
03-24-2004, 04:36 PM
Another update, fixing the future links to cables, and things like that...
03-24-2004, 04:45 PM
Awesome model mate!
Keep on I'll keep my eye on this one!
03-24-2004, 06:05 PM
incredible flesh work!!!!!.......what type of machine technology you ll put on this character??.......hi-tech or low-tech?
03-24-2004, 06:15 PM
waw you are really professional i love your detailing process
cant wait to see what will be accomplished
good luck man
03-24-2004, 06:33 PM
I see a lot of mention about z-brush. I just wanted to say that any tool is nothing without the artist behind it. You've got great talent. Keep up the good work, I'll certainly check back!
03-24-2004, 06:43 PM
I like the model, very clean lines. I haven’t used ZBrush, I’m assuming the local texture around the bumps and cable insertion areas are made form a map. Dose ZBrush work like Deep Paint where you are able to paint directly on the model? I’m creating a similar texture on a cell structure and having some issues with maps in Lightwave, some direct painting might help.
03-24-2004, 06:47 PM
Thanks guys !
Another update, starting to create metallic part, with some copper i think, and muddy metal.
03-24-2004, 07:06 PM
WOW, this is nice. I just went to the Z-Brush site to check out that software and download the demo.
good luck with the project.
Can't wait to see more.
03-24-2004, 07:21 PM
looks amazing, that texture is incredible! have you already bumpmapped this all?
I've been looking for your work but I didn't know you reregistered...
is this to keep your Lightwave past behind you? :P
03-24-2004, 07:37 PM
now how the hell am I supposed to compete with something like that?
I wish I had the money right now, I'd buy a copy of ZBrush. I read the article that was posted about it. I was impressed then... I think I am impressed even more so now...
How long did it take you to just model? And how long for the texturing?
And how much do I have to pay you to widraw from the competition?
Awesome, and I hate you. (just kidding, I think...)
03-24-2004, 07:38 PM
holy SH!T !!!!! that's looks great !!!!!
all made in ZBRUSH ????
03-24-2004, 08:23 PM
Looking great Rolhion:thumbsup: I'm just worried you'll be finished with the picture next week:) Remember it is a three month challenge.
I know you are still working on it but the metalic part would look better with some sharper/deeper cuts. Too smooth IMO.
Already subscribed to this thread
I love the work it's quite good. and the idea is great as well,
but, and I'm sorry to say this ....I think Zbrush is a bit unfar in this type of challenge. But that is just an observation : )
I love the model and consider it one of my faves.
03-24-2004, 08:54 PM
Unfair?! LOL! You have got to be kidding me!!
oh GAWD...damn :surprised :wip:
haha! now his back makes sense! wonderful work man. :applause:
03-24-2004, 09:31 PM
Just another tiny update
For the total time i spent on this model from start to now : 6 hours effective.
Thanks all for your support and comments :)
03-25-2004, 02:39 AM
Seriously........................My hats off to you.
I really like the progression of this model, nice work.
Keep it going, I'll have my eye on this one.
03-25-2004, 08:32 AM
OK, I'm dropping out of this contest! How can I possibly compete with this!? Just kidding, that is some seriously good modeling. I will follow this thread carefully!
03-25-2004, 03:01 PM
amazing work Jean,
i like the model it is very complicated did you use displacement map for that openings on his back, i like them.
btw: can you tell me please your computer specifications, with that model it looks you have very high tech computer.:D
03-25-2004, 03:07 PM
Coming great man! Great tecnique and nice details :)
Keep it up!!!!
03-25-2004, 03:08 PM
Another minor update, finding the good elements for the good place. But i think it will be not the definitive design.
03-25-2004, 03:11 PM
My computer is a slow 1800+ AMD 512 Mb SDRAM, and a Quadro2 video card.
03-25-2004, 03:12 PM
WOW!!! ZBrush Master... Great model and details. will keep my eyes on your thread Good Luck man
03-25-2004, 03:57 PM
QUADRO 2 is great card !
i had one too only 32 MB of memory but work realy fast...
now i have QUADRO FX500 .....
03-25-2004, 04:24 PM
Wow, amazing modeling!
And all that in 6 hours, I'm just speechless.
You seem to have mastered ZBrush, for sure.
I'm following you
03-25-2004, 04:55 PM
I realy feel so small, this work is unbelievably fantastic I think I can learn a bit from this thread...I am watching..
03-25-2004, 05:06 PM
I really wish there was a way to see you do like a quicktime movie of just one part... the model and then how you get it to look so textured and perfect... amazing. I can't wait for the final scene for this one, I think the lighting will really bring it all together... any idea what you will be doing for that yet?
03-25-2004, 05:30 PM
The lord of the ring + Matrix ~
Both idea and skill are outstanding !
I learn many things from this , thanks !
03-25-2004, 05:50 PM
Really nice idea and modeling untill now
I wish i could know z brush
03-25-2004, 05:55 PM
I tried ZBrush once, and I only have one question for you....
HOW DO YOU DO IT???
03-25-2004, 06:02 PM
Really amazing modeling... I think i should give a try to ZBrush one day!!! Great work!!! :buttrock:
03-25-2004, 06:15 PM
This is looking great JS! I've got a technique for making twisting, bent tubing if you are interested (which I can't post here for obvious NDA reasons ;) . Just message me at ZBC or something if you are interested. Keep it up bud!!
03-25-2004, 09:47 PM
Thanks all ! :)
03-25-2004, 10:00 PM
No matter what program you use, your progress is fun to watch.
Knowing ZBrush, however, have you already multimarkered the troll to the mechanism, or are you just giving us a side snapshot?
If its already been multimarkered, I don't envy you working the textures out through TextureMaster. You're a madman.
And one hell of an artist.
Also, just for my own lazy curiosity, I've seen a few people complaining about how many ZBrush entires there are so far in this contest. But, I'm buggered if I can only find two (yours, and Mentat7's). Who else are you aware of that's going head to head with your Z entry?
Will ZBrush take over CGTalk? Wouldn't that be a kick.
Anyway, congratulations on an inspiring beginning.
03-26-2004, 12:05 PM
To answer some questions :
Mentat7 : Thanks mate ! That will be okay i think, and i absolutely want to create the whole thing on my own, and without scripts, but i appreciate ! thanks ;)
Hellsp4wn : I tried ZBrush once, and I only have one question for you....
HOW DO YOU DO IT???
I just learned with the fabulous www.Zbrushcentral.com forum where you'll find everything to get started, like tutorials, zscripts, and the official Zbrush tutorials available when opening Z.
Shadow Seraph : I think i'll do something similar that my 2nd concept sketch, with 1 or 2 other characters besides the Troll Juice Machine.
ravioli_rancher : I still didn't multimarkered yet the different elements, because for now, i'm modeling some different assembling parts, and i'm not sure this current assembling will be definitive.
Thanks all :)
wow, slick progress. You go at a great pace there
ravioli : JS, Mentat, ambient-whisper, southern, Antropus and certainly a few other...
03-26-2004, 02:20 PM
Just a quick test for future flesh texture. It's a non final texture, but more a test under zbrush, to fit my future material settings.
Cables are not textured yet, and have the same material than previously. So don't have an eye on this.
03-26-2004, 02:33 PM
wow, master-textyres , keep on dude!
03-26-2004, 02:56 PM
That is looking wickedly gruesome! Rock on bud!
03-26-2004, 03:04 PM

03-26-2004, 03:53 PM
Monstrous. Nice skin details. The monster looks just awsome. It reminds me Quake4... Good luck and keep up a good work.
03-26-2004, 04:37 PM

03-27-2004, 03:23 PM

Great level of detail on the skin.
03-27-2004, 06:30 PM

Very good, very fast, very furious, not much more I can say!!!
03-29-2004, 07:20 PM
I'm a maya user. I started this challenge with a not very clear idead about if I was going to finish it... I mean, modeling posing texturing, rendering, all besidedes others stufs that im doing, other proyects etc. I'm participating here just for fun. but now I m thinking that maybe with zbrush I can fisnish on time. I hope that it's not very dificult to learn.
your work its great, one of the best 3d models (if not the best) in all the challenge. congrats for you, and good look with the final image!!!!!!!!!!!
03-30-2004, 09:15 PM
dang that's awesome!
how'd you get the dark brown inbetween the hose sections? image map or procedural?
03-31-2004, 09:30 AM
I've been following your thread for a while and it's really taking shape. Good stuff.
03-31-2004, 09:44 AM
An incredible work.
This character is at the same time monstrous, and terribly beautiful.
I see that we still have much work to arrive at this stage.
Moreover, you realize that with a speed to cut the breath.
Really, all my congratulations, that will be a memorable artwork
03-31-2004, 04:16 PM
Thanks for your feedback all ! :)
Another update (sorry i don't have alot of free time actually)of the final texture look.
03-31-2004, 04:34 PM

Js > thx amigo^^ NK2 is for soon :) hope to see you onboard when released
04-01-2004, 09:44 AM
As I mentioned elsewhere....love that texture. I dug the movie as well....thanks for that.....was hoping someone would post a "script" in lieu of my getting the upgrade anytime soon, so I could see it in action.
Great model, texture! If your pics and the others pics from Z2 don't convince folks Zbrush is an awesome product and considering it's price for it's wallop......nothing will.
To all you others.....Zbrush..more than lives up to it's advertising and it looks like Z2 does and then some.....its more than worth it to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a year to buy it!:)
04-01-2004, 10:03 AM
Brilliant work, the texturing is awsome. Nicely done cant wait to see the finished product
04-01-2004, 10:39 AM
Yes... thanks for your website, and this great moment of pleasure... chapeau l'artiste
...et d'habitude, je n'aime pas les monstres !
04-01-2004, 03:38 PM
hell yeah, that's one nice texture dude !!!
a little critic: is it me, or maybe i feel that the mouth section is a bit flat somehow. i can't feel the depth of his mouth, or perhaps it's the lighting. well, either way, the model will look much better if it has some deep throat feeling to it. :)
but overally, it's a nice work you got
04-01-2004, 04:04 PM
Yeah, the mouth and the teeth, something's wrong
04-01-2004, 04:23 PM
I agree, the mouth area looks more 2D than 3D. But the rest? Wohoo!
04-02-2004, 09:40 PM
Ahooooooooy, hello dear old mate! I just saw your thread, and as always, I'M THRILLED! :-D good work Jean. good to see you again, and your impressive works.
